Composting with no yard?

This may be a silly question, but is there any way I can compost when I don't really have access to a yard? We've always composted in our backyard, but have recently made a temporary move for my husband's job. We're renting a house with a pool (thankfully with a child-proof cover!!) and basically no yard - pretty much all cement. Since that was the only drawback and there were tons of advantages we took the house. Anyway, is there any way we can compost in this situation? I shudder at the thought of throwing out what could be composted.

Thanks!

I've seen people take large plastic tubs and compost things in that. They do a 'parfait' of soil, decomposable garbage, soil, garbage, etc.

The tubs are kept behind the house - and I think after they've decomposted it a while, they use the rich soil for their little gardens (you can do potted gardens too).

I live in an apartment in a part of Atlanta where we don't even have a recycling program or anywhere to put recyclables (except for phone books and magazines), so I may be talking out of my ass a little...but I hope that helps a bit

I think Spastica is talking about a worm bin. You can even do those inside. Basicaly you need a big bin with some air holes drilled into it and some dranage holes on the bottom. You will need some kind of tray to keep the water off your floor if it's inside. Fill the bin about half full of sawdust or shedded paper (no coloured inks) or something like that. Add a bit of sand (worms need grit to help them digest) a bit of some compost from an outdoor bin for the soil microbes and a nice big handful of redwigglers. You burry your kitchen scraps in the sawdust and the worms do the work. You could probably Google it for more info.

By googling, I found some links for homemade balcony composters:

I know my city sells one, but I couldn't find it on the net...
Found it! Too bad it is sooooo expensive... My city makes us pay 25$ for the exact same one!!!
