What do you do for sun protection?

Yesterday I went to Disneyland and I tried to keep poor Daph covered but I obviously didnt cause her face is all burned. Poor baby. I put real aloe vera on it from my plant and then when she was nursing she rubbed her cheek on my boob and made my boob all bitter so then she didnt want to nurse. But I scrubbed it off in the shower and we are all better now and she is sleeping but the poor girl's face is so red! I think it happened when we were in line for small world....cause I put the receiving blanket over her head but I think since she was up on my shoulder that the sun shone to her face cause it was poking out. She must have my skin cause I burn super easy too.

Anyways, all the sunblocks say not for use under 6 months....plus they are full of chemicals. What do you use? I have a sun hat but she fusses....granted next time she is wearing it anyways.....but its getting warmer and more skin will be showing soon so what can I put on her?

Does anyone know if the make UV protection shades for over strollers too?

I've totally been wondering this question as well!!!!

but, since I'm wondering about it too, I don't have any answers!!!

(and, if you don't get any here, maybe over on the Natural Home & Body Care they'd know more? I've been meaning to post this very question but just haven't.. ... . instead I'm having to track down terrible odors, with Madeline completely denying anything. Then finding an empty nail polish bottle -- gift from MIL .. I'm too lazy to paint my nails! -- and then she'll finally fess up... you know, like I'm *not* going to notice the entire basement REEKS?!?!?! ugh!)

that says 6 months+ on it too. I wonder what their reasoning is for having to be 6 months. Hmmm.

We've had really good luck with flap happy hats to protect the faces. I've also heard good things about baby banz, but the ones we got for Karen when she was nearly 2 kept falling off.

When we go to somplace like Disney (ok, we've never gone with the kids, but we've done things like art fairs) we tend to use a backpack instead of a sling, and our backpack has a sun shade on it.

you know what, call me evil or mainstream, but i put the baby sunscreen on my little ones anyway. for the littlest ones i use that stick and for older i use the lotion. it's more important to me that they have the UV protection than anything else, imo. no ill effects for either child so far.

Yup. I use a more natural sunscreen (from Aubrey Organics) but I do just put it on -- my ped. encourages it as well.

where do you find that brand, kristin?

When I was a nanny, the parents bought that sun suit for thier little boy. It was not used that much. He just looked so hot in it. Not a good thing if it is not used. One Step Ahead also makes a swim suit cover up http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.jsp...758&change=117 that looks like a long sleeved hooded t shirt. It is 100% cotton and seems more usuable. They also have a stroller canopy http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.jsp...762&change=117 that is more open-it just extends on the canopy the stroller comes with. Then again I never had luck with babies staying in strollers for long. There is also a sling made of solarveil fabric that is supposed to block UV.

Kids are wanting books read to them. I'll try to find a solar veil sling link later.

I put sunblock on Jevin too (I didnt that day but if we go to the beach or something, yep, I sure do).......melanoma just scares me too much, ykwim? But I just thought I couldnt on Daph cause she was too young. Especially cause where she burned was like right under her eye and she rubs her eyes with her fists when shes tired.

I'm gonna see what the healthfood store has today.......

I think I am gonna do that solar stroller cover too...........
