Skid marks

Whenever we talk about episiotomies and tearing people always mention skid marks. What exactly qualifies as a skid mark?

they're like stretch marks - just splits where the skin stretched. most of the time, they come together beautifully and often are very, very superficial.

I think they're like rug-burn-esque type things -- but not an actual tear. Like a little scrape.

I had a skid mark just inside the vagina, along with a one-stitch "tear" after my first birth. The tear healed within a day, however, the skid mark hurt like hell when peeing for 2 weeks because there was nothing to "come together" to heal, it was just like an internal scrape that had to heal.

I had 2- very superficial, almost like papercuts. They healed in about a week.

I was told I had 2 "skid marks" when #4 was born. I didn't feel them at all, I was maybe a bit swollen, but other than that I didn't feel a thing.
