How to get Diva to POP? & an FYI answer

So today is my first "real" day using it.
I got it to pop right away, during the dry run. (Then, not knowing any better, nearly sucked my guts out b/c I didn't break the suction!

This morning, I nearly had my whole hand up there trying to get it to pop and couldn't. Left and did errends anyway.
When I came home, I checked and it had popped open.
Well, that's fine, but what do I do when the flow is heavier?
Will that make it easier for it to pop?
I'm wary of leaving the house with a heavier flow and knowing it hasn't popped open. KWIM?

Also, I e-mailed the company and asked them how soon after birth you can use the Diva.
They said right after. No waiting time like there is for tampons. (6 weeks?)
But I can imagine you would have to change it more frequently. Just thought I would pass that along.

I find that giving it a bit of a twist will make it pop open. And, if it won't turn, then it is lodged on one side of the cervix, so I need to pull it back out a bit and then turn/push it in at the same time.

I do find I have to have it a little higher up than what they recommend for it to be comfortable.

Answer to your question

What I always have to do is rotate it/ turn it around and or rock it left to right a few times to get it to pop open properly. I then run my finger around to make sure it's totally popped open. I totally love my Diva!

I always get laughs when I describe my "high stepping" after inserting the Diva cup, but just a couple of steps in place (like you're marching) seems to pop mine open.

Yeah, mine seems to pop all on its own a few seconds after I get up. I can feel it pop, too. It's a very strange sensation, lol!

After a vaginal delivery, I can't imagine WANTING to use a cup postpartum-

: Mine usually pops once I twist it a few times.

I agree, I would not want to use a cup pospartum! I would not want anytjing near there. I am now 4 months postpartum and just starting to feel comfortable with the idea.

<cringeing at the thought of putting something up there so soon after birth!!> :

But laughing at the "high stepping"; I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does the Diva Dance!

I like to use a different fold; I don't remember what it's called, but instead of folding it in half, you fold one side down toward the middle, like when you step on the side of a kiddie pool to let the water out. Then you put it in with the fold toward the back, just like when you fold it in half. It pops so much easier this way. If it still needs help, I do like the above poster does and pull it out a little, then push it in a little more. Usually, it just needs to be helped past my pubic bone a little and then it pops right into place.

I could see using the cup after a few weeks- when the lochia slows down but hasn't stopped yet- but those first few hours after birth I'd rather wear a diaper!

Diva Dance... I like it!

I put mine in when I take a shower to make sure I'm squatting in the right position to get the right fit. I've never really felt or heard a pop except for when I take it out. Oy Vey - with cramps that REALLY hurt this week.

I always have to be careful if I don't put it in while in the shower because I leak. Otherwise, this is THE GREATEST INVENTION for womenkind! After childbirth tampons just fell out! Everbody - KEGEL!!!

It's called the 7 fold and it's the only way I've been able to make my Diva fit right. It seems the Keeper is a better choice for me, but either way, the 7 fold is the way to go for me.

I think the keepers website has instructions on the 7 fold, but basically, instead of pushing it flat and folding it in half, you fold one side down so it makes a 7 shape.

I've fallen in love with my cups now that I learned this method - before I wasn't too keen on them because no amount of fiddling could get a tight seal.

HTH.

Try different folds?

My fave is the punch-down. I find it a lot easier to hold onto when I'm putting the cup in. The C-fold wasn't working for me at all... out of a few dozen tries, I only got a good seal once or twice.

Wow, great website! I'll post it on my other msg board; this question comes up frequently.

I use the punch-down fold.

I did that too. OUCH!!! I didn't know any better. I'm a little afraid to use it now though and AF should be showing up on Monday or Tuesday.
