Postpartum Snackiness?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Since giving birth, I am so SNACKY! It's way, way worse than it ever was when I was pregnant. Back then, I craved healthy foods like peppers and seafood. Now it's all sugars, baked goods, and chocolate. I'm out of control. ....yesterday I ate a full box of sugar-free pudding (ick...sugar free...how'd that get in the house?), a doughnut, half a cookie, and half a soda.

I finally had to make a deal with myself...no sugary snacks except fruit and an evening cup of hot cocoa. If my snacking keeps up, I'm never going to lose the extra 20 pounds I'm carrying.

Is this normal? Is anyone else wanting to stuff their faces all day?

I don't know if it is normal, but I am with you all the way!! I gave birth to DD #3 about 3 1/2 weeks ago and am still carrying about 20lbs more than I would like to carry and can't seem to stop craving sweet, salty, processed, any not very good for you kind of snacks. UUUgh. How am I ever going to fit back into my clothes if I keep eating like this? I think it is sort of funny how people always got after me during my pregnancies about not eating enough... "You're eating for two now" but I had reasonable (not huge) appetites during pregnancy, but when the baby gets here...Look Out World!!! Now I would REALLY like to eat for two (or three or four) Oh well Good luck keeping your cravings under some control!! Remember, you are not alone

Yes. Yes!! I just want to eat all the time. And I have specific cravings as well. I guess its hormonal and has a lot do with BF'ing. The weight thing is bothering me. I think I have about 15 lbs to go before getting back to the pre-Leo me.

Good lord, yes! I'm like a hobbit these days. I've got to have at least 6 meals a day (breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch...). I'm eating everything in sight: healthy and not-so-healthy.

This unbelievable appetite happened with DS, too. It's gotta be the nursing. My body apparently requires TONS of fuel to make milk, because DD has already sucked all the extra PG inches off of me. (I haven't a clue what I weigh, b/c we don't keep a scale at home, but I wore a pair of pre-Maria jeans yesterday.)

YES! OMG! I'm glad I'm not alone. I am STARVING constantly. I am sending DH into the kitchen to get me something to eat nearly every time I nurse, and it seems like every time I ask DH to hold DS it's so I can go get a snack

i am totally snacky and crave 2 things that sooo bad for me.

lays limon (lime) flavored potato chips and haagen daaz coffee ice cream.

the other day i ate a whole huge bag of limon lays in 2 days. once i start eating them, i can't stop.

it sucks. i don't even like potato chips usually. i do love coffee ice cream, but i never have liked potato chips. doritos, yet, cheetos, yes, but not potato chips.

to make it worse, DH bought me more today. i told him he either loves me or hates me (since i will clog all my arteries if i keep eating them...)

i think part of it is because of eating so healthy trying to prevent pre-eclampsia, and just the eating healthy in general. who knows. all i know is that i am addicted to lays limon flavored chips...

Yes, me too! Our midwife said that I actually need to be eating more than I did while preggo because of breastfeeding. More protein, specifically, but more in amount, too.

I definately have been hungry ALL DAY. And I'm cutting out dairy to see if it helps Max's gas... it's really hard for me not to eat cheese and milk!

One more on the snack-wagon . . . THRILLED, though, to be so hungry; I dealt with more-or-less constant nausea during my pregnancy (with about a 5-week break starting around month 6), so it feels wonderful to have an appetite again. The tough part is finding quick & easy (and fairly healthy) snacks to keep myself satisfied while nursing; I haven't been able to put DD down, and although she is light, it still makes food preparation a little difficult when you have only one free hand. When I have her tied to my chest in the wrap it is a lot easier, but I'm still not doing much "cooking" while I am wearing her--mostly just reheating. I've been eating Luna bars, string cheese, yogurt (left over from my last month of pregnancy, when I was instructed to eat super-high-protein to help with baby's growth), apples, nuts, trail mix, soup . . . anything that can be eaten with my one free hand!

I was very lucky this week, though; a couple of the moms that I taught infant massage to last year dropped off big trays of food for me, so I have been reheating homemade macaroni & cheese casserole all day today, and will be working on the homemade manicotti tomorrow.

Butting in from the Feb ec to say that I'm a snack freak when bf'ing, too. With dd1, I craved salty foods and with dd2, I crave sugar, sugar, and more sugar. I think I'm the only person I know who loses weight while pg and then porks up while bf'ing. I buy massive amounts of fruit and consume it, but I also eat candy and other "bad" sweets. Oy!
