I should mention that my dd is bi-racial and her hair is fairly African influenced -- kinky and generally dry, especially in the back. Her hair is beautifully long and *thick*, so combing it is always a challenge! Anyone who has cared for african hair can attest to how scary the ingredient lists can get at the beauty supply store, but I couldn't afford the all-natural products I found on-line, so I decided to try making some of my own.
Note that I didn't measure exactly -- these are estimates. For caucasian hair, I would try it with less aloe and oil at first. You can always add more later if you think it would help.
In a spray bottle, I mixed about 4 oz. of water with about 1/4 cup aloe vera gel and a healthy dollop of avocado oil (maybe 1 - 2 teaspoons?) I added some coconut flavoring I had on hand to give it a nice smell. You can add any fragrance you like (essential oils would be nice) or leave it scent-free. Again, keep in mind that this formula is for African-type hair. Adjust for yourself or your child as needed. Shake it up and spray it on!
I tried it today on dd's dry hair: I took out her braids, which were getting frizzy after a couple of days, and used the spray before combing her hair out and re-braiding it. Both dd and I were happy with the results.
