Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers and mom's to be! This is a day for us all to reflect upon what our mother's mean to us and how we can pass on those wonderful things to our own children - now and (for those of us without any yet) ...hopefully in the near future!

Best wishes to all, and may all your hopes and dreams come true!

Welcome here, Amy. I'm 40, have a DS of 6 and a DD of 1. Also WOHM although not at the moment and probably not till about Sept/Oct.

Lisa - you always have a nice word for everyone.

AF arrived today, a "textbook" 14 months post-partum. So we can start ttc in earnest, first few cycles (while things get back to normal) just by letting things happen.

Good luck all.

Hi everyone! Just popping in quickly to say that I just got my first real job in 5 years - goodbye SAHM-hood! What this means is health insurance and possible fertility treatment.

CD24 and feeling crappy as usual - either PMS or ....

I do this to myself every month!

Charting like mad. If O is going to happen it'll be Thursday-ish. I'm interested to see if I'm really back in the game or if I'm nearly out of it. Prior to conceiving DS I was told I had diminished reserve.

Technically we are not TTC, but we're not really avoiding either. I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about onlies. DH is too I think. Does anyone have any strong opinions? I'd love to hear them.

Congrats on the job Summermom!

Hey there,
Congrats on the job Summermom! Health insurance is a good thing isn't it?
Good luck..cycle day 24 puts you how many dpo?

Amy,
My feeling on family size is whatever feels right for you is right for you.
My goddaughter is nearly 20 and she and many of her friends have no siblings. If I think about my block here (urban area) there are 3 families with one child & no plans for another. It is very common nowadays. So..THAT issue-the feeling like everyone ELSE has siblings is a non-issue these days. I think a well-loved child in a family of any size does just great. I think without the built-in companions that siblings make that parents with one child have to make play-dates & provide more activities. On the other hand you can do anything with one child...no worrying about something being age appropriate for one kid but not for another...
I guess you need to look at what you envision your family to be,I personally LOVE the interactions & relationships between my children. It is one of the most moving & rewarding parts of parenting for me. They have someone who has gone through childhood with them, who will share those memories & experiences. They will have someone to share those memories with for a life-time,someone to lean on and someone to share the burdens
of aging parents with. For me I envisioned the full table at Thanksgiving,a house full of grandkids & kids as I get older. I don't mind chaos..I tolerate if not celebrate a messy house.
I do think that children without siblings make great friends that take on sisterly/brotherly type roles in their lives. Patience & resources are probably more plentiful too in their households. Every family size should be celebrated just as every type -man/woman.. woman/woman...single parent household they all do just fine when full of love. I think the decision to go from one to two may be the most profound & certainly the transition from one to two was the most difficult for me. (2-3 was easy & here I am trying for #5!)

Anyway, ..you will make the decision that is right for you or time will make it for you.

As usual I have blithered on for too long...

Summermom, congrats on the new job! It must feel very validating to you that you are still considered valued in the working world, and very exciting to re-enter it and stimulate your mind with adult issues!

Lisa, what a wonderful post you wrote re: family size. I've never read something so well balanced and so open on both sides of the issue as what you wrote. Kudos!

As for me, I just got my AF visit tonight, 2 days late in my cycle, but after a "normal length" cycle with a long LP of 12 days (instead of 5-9). That must mean something good. Of course, I had my moment of sadness, but have to look at the upside. I am considering finding a less expensive AI donor to save money (sounds bizarre to me, too, when you're talking genes, looks, intelligence and other important characteristics), but it is SOOOOO expensive ttc each month with donor sperm. However, I haven't had the time to spend searching thru profiles, photos and medical histories. I like the donor I've been using, but $$ is definitely an issue, when I have to ttc month after month after month.

Anyway, I think I'm ok and ready to dive in to the next cycle. I will probably do the clomid challenge test. Does anyone know what values are "good" values with the bloodwork?

Best wishes, everyone!
Ms GB

Hi MsGB,
Sorry about AF,hopes get raised, don't they? The drop back down to earth stinks! How does IUI compare price-wise to what you are currently doing? I wonder if it might be worth a try-have you asked your RE about it? I wish I knew more about the blood work but don't. You might ask the TTC for over 12 months group if none knows here..they are pretty darn smart & helpful.
Thanks for the kind words & good luck to you for the upcoming cycle,
Lisa

Hi Ladies. I see alot of new "faces" here. I just dropped in to say hi. Lisa- youre posts are always so inspiring and thoughtful.
No, Im not preg, but I think Ive sorta given up the idea I'd have another. Im enjoying my family as it is. Im 47 and I dont think its going to happen- but I did get quite lucky having most of my children in my 40s. As for the new ladies here- I had my last dd at 45- so there IS hope!
So.....Im counting my blessings and moving on. Well, we wil probably always bd at the right moment, just in case
Be well, everyone- lots of babydust your way........

Lisa,
I did IUI for 2 cycles, and now do ICI (which is at home vs. the dr's office). The specimens are about $100 less (each) for ICI than IUI, and you also avoid the $225 fee for the dr's insemination. That makes the home ICI insem. cycle cost $650/mo less w/2 insems/mo than in the dr's office.

Thanks Lisa

I loved your post in reply to my family size question. I think I can be at peace no matter what at this point. Prior to conceiving DS I was thinking of adopting a sibling group. All I had to do was convince DH

Last night DH said to me "who knew having a baby was so much fun".

I'm happy for the changes in your LP.
Please can you tell me what you did differently this month to lengthen your LP?.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I am in the midst of straightening up as my dad is staying overnight which means he will see the DUM DUMDUM(scary music ) second floor, which is always a bit disheveled. Just have to get the girls room prepped as he will sleep in there..Lily actually does a fairly good job in his honor but the man deserves clean sheets & a vacuum!

So..why am I posting rather than tidying? Well..I chart using Fertility Friend's software & post a bit there with a group of women. I also lurk regularly at their 40+ TTC board..it's fairly large I couldn't keep up with it as a regular poster...anyway I digress, In the month of May there have been 10 pregnancies announced! So..don't give up..we are so small here that it is hard to see successes but it will happen for some of us, there is hope!
Happy Weekend,
Lisa
