Yoga Tribe!

Are there any Yoga people out there?

I've been doing yoga since I was a child, I've just recently gotten involved with instructing. I haven't instructed any classes as of yet, but I should be starting soon!

I'm a mother of one, and a wife (also of one.)
We're AP, crunchy earth people!

Anyone else?

I've been doing yoga for almost 1.5 years, but since it's yoga alabama style I'm not sure how true it is to yoga.

I love it. My back doesn't hurt anymore, and I feel so good.

I'm looking forward to moving to a large city soon, and having tons of yoga classes to choose from.

I used to do "yoga" by just sitting and stretching while I meditated. I love to just move how I feel, it's so good!

Do you take a class, jerawo?

I'm yogaing!

A lot lately, since I got a yoga pass book. I get to sample classes and I'm making the rounds.

I'd like to do more - the place around the corner is kind of expensive. I've got a tiny apt. and when I leave our bed most mornings, my DD wakes up. So I'm more of a yoga class attender than a private practicer.

uhh...can you tell I do yoga?

I have been practicing yoga for about 7 years. After having my second babe six months ago I have found it very hard to get to classes so I got a yoga DVD that I can do at home and I love it. I definitely is not the same as going to classes but it helps me find some peace. I have a hard time pushing myself in my home practice, KWIM? We're love practicing AP and natural living but I wouldn't describe as exactly cruncy . I am hoping to go through teacher training in the next few years when my babe is ready for me to be gone a little. I dream of having my own studio some day. Who knows....
love, Christine

I've been doing yoga for a couple of years--just from videos and tv shows up until recently though.

I'm taking my first yoga class and i really like it. It's hard to so yoga at home. When i try to do poses on the floor ds wants to nurse, and he's always pulling on me or trying to climb on me. I have to admit that it's awefully cute when i do downward facing dog and he does it too.

Ds also does downward facing dog!! He is the cutest little yoga guy!! He also always wants to nurse, he think if mommy is sitting it's fair game. Sometimes I feel like a jungle gym! The other day I was doing a bending posture when ds came up from behind me and pushed me right over!

I have done yoga with ds from conception (or possibly during ) During pregnancy I found it was my fovorite way to bond with the baby. I would sit and meditate on him, and I could really feel him responding to me, even before I felt life! I started doing yoga as soon as I could after ds was born. I would sit on the floor with my feet together and his head on my feet! Oh, all this talking of babies is really getting to me!!

I'm going to try to do Yoga during my next labor. Has anyone else done this? With ds I had terrible back labor to the point where I really couldn't sit, and I expect the next one to be much the same. I hope that Yoga will help to releve back pain in labor, but we'll see if I'll be able to even do it:

I'm into exercise period, but I do yoga too.

Yup. Me too. We went to brunch this morning and the waiter brought out some toys for my dss to play with. Ds#1 proudly put Buzz Lightyear in tree pose.

I LOVE yoga but haven't been doing it very consistently lately. I just became a SAHM so now is a great time to get back into it and make it part of my day.

I was just thinking yesterday that I could see myself teaching yoga years from now...

I love yoga. I haven't done it much lately, b/c of life circumstances, but soon hopefully I will join a class again. I sometimes do it around the kids, but like someone said I get used as a jungle gym so it isn't as great.

I've practiced yoga for 16 years. It is my mainstay. My practice suffered after my second child was born, but now that he is almost four, I am getting back to it slowly, but surely. I am not currently as flexible or strong as I was 16 years ago, but I find my practice has more depth than it did when I started out. After having babies, I went to one class per week and that was it. Now I am finding time for a 30 min. or so practice daily at home. It feels great! I love yoga!

Hey yoginis,
I love yoga and have been doing it for about 15 years. I can't figure out want I want to do with my yoga now. I can't find a decent teacher in my area, plus a regular class is not in the budget.

I taught yoga for several years when I lived in another city. I tried teaching for a little while, but with a 1 and 3 yo it was stressing me out to rush to class when dh got home from work, and then to have to spend precious time in my regular practice thinking about what I was going to teach.

I've heard it said that mothering is your yoga when you have little ones. I try to remember that when I they are driving me crazy.

What are other yoga teachers experiences?

hi Lunar Forest!

Yoga fiend here. 3+ years actively w/yoga, spent sometime previous looking into it, etc. Not a regular practicer, at this time, but addicted and dedicated, nonetheless. I enjoy reading Yoga Journal and idenitfy w/Swami Radha, read Ascent, too. I think yoga is all you need, in terms of exercise, anyway.

Not a teacher, not looking to be one at this time, but entertain the thought, occasionally. I think there's a lot of power from taking classes and not just using videos, if they're available.

I started a thread about this a while back. Well, that was one of the topics. And I think that it works well, esp in terms of breath work and positioning, getting to know where you need to be, listening to your body. I couldn't really speak to what position to use in labor that helps most, tho

Breath control really helped me during my labor, too, but I didn't even think to do any other part of yoga. Silly me.:

A book I really like about yoga and pregnancy is The Complete Book of Yoga nad Meditation for Pregnancy by Theresa Jamieson. She talks about so much breath work and so many different positions. I'm not positive about 'what to do in labor', exactly, but I think she mentions something in there. It's just such a thorough book. And Janet Balaskas' Preparing for Birth w/Yoga seems to go along those lines, as well. But, about actual 'try this at this time', it's kinda difficult to tel, since everyones experience is differentl. For the purpose of birthing, I don't think having used a yoga video is going to be helpful, but some practical yoga information will probably be useful, if that makes sense.

I believe they both had a lot of stuff about squatting and practice as well as the pelvic floor exercises, which help you feel what's going on down there...

Man, I know this stuff, and yet I'm not doing enough practice!!

bye!

I knwo this thread has died, but....

I am so sad because I was supposed to Teach a Yoga class tonight, but no one signed up for it!!!

I knew no one would because there wasn't enough advanced notice, but I'm still a little sad about it. The good part is that this course (that no one signed up for) was only a three week course, so my next class starts three weeks from now, so I have three more weeks to prepare. We're quite certain that people will sign up for this next one, but if they don't I'm really going to get depressed!
