April 9 Update- Nana had twins today! Check the blog for a very touching picture of Nana hugging her new baby. (also a gooey birth picture)

Whoo-hoo! May had TWINS today! (May is one of my Angora goats) She had a boy and a girl. They are the size of a medium sized rabbit with really long legs... their ears are long and floppy like a lop rabbit too. Anyway... gotta go check on the new mom- just wanted to share the joy!

Love Sarah

PS- It looks like Nana my other doe is also going to have a baby!

OK- I updated my blog with a picture of the babies. I'm still a bit concerned about the little girl- on a scale of one to ten I'm giving her a 4... she still can't stand up- but she's trying, and she is not floppy or apathetic. I'll be staying home today playing LC to them... making sure that she is able to get up to nurse often enough to keep her strength growing. But it is a trick to get in to help her when May assumes that I'm up to no good... (she boxed me in the ear this AM with her horns! OW May!) The goat house is a truck cap on cinderblocks- so the low roof is very cosy and warm for goat sized critters- but leaves me in a very compromised belly crawl to try to help out.

A dairy goat friend told me that often the doe babies are not as thrifty as the boys- so I'm hoping that's all it is and she catches up soon.

Well- the last LC attempt was difficult- I tied May to the fence and put down a small bowl of feed and was able to help little baby "April" for as long as it took May to eat- but she finished so quick and started dancing around trying to give me another good left hook. Finally I told May that we were going to switch from Boxing to wrestling so I could have the upperhand- I did a "shearing flip" on her so she was seated on her butt (actually the top of her hips) and we placed April between her back legs and nurse from the udder that way. May was very relaxed and April got a tummyfull. (all the while I was wondering where that maneuver would rate with the ethical wool folks) I hope we see her up by noon.

I think we might name the boy "Stormy" in honor of the big one that just cut through. We have a thing with cloud names, Cirrus and Numbus... but now what?- Mezzocyclone is a tough name to live up to....

Congratulations May! Thoae twins are so cute. What kind of goats are they? I would love to have goats. It won't be for a while, yet.

So cute! They make me want to cry. I'm vibing baby April. It sounds like you're taking good care of her. Maybe you should wear a helmet when you get out there with them? I'm not kidding.

My MIL had a "pet" goat when she was in the Peace Corps. She said goats, more often than not, have twins. She said that's why goats are such a great gift via the...oh, shit. What's the name of that org?

(May I ask where in IN you are? I'm in Indy. *fantasizing about seeing your baby goats*)

Awww congrats! My mom's goat will be kidding soon too (in fact, the goat is due a few days before I am ). Unfortunately, her goats don't have great hair for spinning.

OK- I didn't want to haul everyone along on my rollercoaster ride, so I was reluctant to post- but the update from this afternoon is pretty sunny.

Take care, April! Make sure you get a nap during the day if you can, Sarah. That's tough, combining a cold with sleep deprivation.

Great news- This Am I took off the lower set of ankle armor- and this PM I took off the upper set. April is steady and walking on all fours- you would never guess what a pickle she was in just two days ago! Thanks all for the prayers and well wishes.
