Help my dd (3.5 yrs) has 4 cavities! What to do? - Page 2

Okay, we went last night and it was amazing. We were her last appointment, so we were right on time. I like my dentist, and don't mind visits at all, and I think Andrew could tell. Anyway, he was up on the chair watching the ceiling tv (I think that was the best part for him!) with his mouth open before they were even ready. They talked him through the whole thing, no freezing, no nitrous, and the whole thing took maybe 20 minutes. He only complained one time when she ground his tooth for a little longer than the two seconds he was willing to allow, but I think mostly it was the vibration that drowned out the tv that was bothering him. It was a metal filling that she used--if they use a white filling, they need to keep the mouth dry and still for 4 minutes, and there was NO WAY that was going to happen with Andrew. If they don't keep it dry it doesn't seal properly, it can leak or crack, and basically it ends up needing to be done over. Anyway, I really do like my dentist, and she just proved again last night that she's a great dentist! He didn't sit in my lap, although he did for the cleaning at our last visit. I don't think it would have worked without the tv in the ceiling though. We had no need for nitrous at all, and I think it was that the dentist and the hygenist were so great with kids, he was totally relaxed the whole time. From your earlier posts, it sounds like your dentist isn't the easiest person in the world to get along with either. I hope that the next time goes better. Honestly, if he was late getting you in, then he should have stayed late to get you out. We were our dentist's last appointment--6:30, right after dinner-- so that she could give us as long as we needed.
