Ugh. I'm 39 weeks and have had only mild, occasional BHx, no bloody show...basically only the earliest of early/false labor. Which is fine; my DS was 41 weeks, but you know...I'm getting tired/anxious.

Anyway, I visited the midwife this morning and she did an internal to check things out. I was just where I expected I'd be...only a fingertip dilated and not at all effaced, so that was no surprise. She was very (and intentionally) rough on my cervix during the exam. So even though she didn't use those words, I think she "stripped my membranes". She did acknowledge surprise that it didn't cause any bloody show, and warned me that I'd probably have some contractions throughout the rest of the day.

And I guess I am...but it doesn't feel like contractions, plural. It's just one loooooooooooooooooooong ache. I feel like I'm in a vice from my fundus to my ankles. It hurts to walk because my pelvis aches. I suddenly feel very tired and sore.

So, um...I assume this is from the internal this morning. My question is; has anyone else any experience with this? Will the ache subside or am I just gonna feel like crap until Real Labor kicks in? I'm not at all convinced, BTW, that the latter is what's happening...I don't have timeable, individual contractions, nor any mucus or show.

Anytime I've had that done, I've felt yucky for at least a few hours afterwards and then off and on for about 2 days. It definitely can help send you into labor if your body is ready, which is impossible to tell from how dilated/effaced you are during an exam. I'm due today and walking around at 2cm+ dilated, etc but you could easily have your baby before me You just never know! I'm not sure if she actually 'stripped your membranes' because I think you have to be a bit more dilated for that usually, but it sounds like she definitely did some cervical massage & stretching which can help release prostaglandins and therefore encourage cervical ripening.

I had a check yesterday and when my midwife was checking me my baby dropped. It was a thud and it hurt pretty bad. She was really surprised and said she could totally feel his head drop from the inside. I have never heard of this, has anyone else had this happen?

Anyway, she didn't try to do anything to get things started, I'm still 2 weeks away and only dilated to a 1, but I have had a hard time even walking at all since then. I hope this gets better! My DS never did drop until pushing, so I didn't know what this entailed, but MAN.

Just feeling with ya, don't have any answers.

Update!

Hm. Cervical massage does sound more likely. Although she did insist that she could feel the baby's head. Who knows. Well, besides her...

Anyway, I continued to ache all through the night, but this morning I feel considerably better. Thank goodness!
