Wool question.......

I posted this on diapering too but I thought I would ask you guys (I mean you gals.....) this too!

I had lots of wool with Jevin and it always held in the pee....

Well.....I have tons of wool covers/soakers this time and all of them wick onto her pants. Can she not wear pants with them? With Jevin, we were always broke and I never went anywhere so he was probably pantless all the time since we were home anyways. LOL But are you not supposed to put pants over wool? Our weather is crappy still and it's kind of chilly.....

are they lanolized well? some of my wool does wick through if they are not knit tightly (some of the first ones i do) but most of them are OK if they are lanolized well. speaking of which i should relanolize the wool now since its prob. time.

however, no matter how lanolized wool is, i think it will wick regardless if there is a lot of moisture in the diaper. so i change often when hes in wool.

dont know if im right since this is the first time ive done wool but thats my experience.

We use a wool cover at night for my 2 yr old because it's the only thing that keeps the pee in, so I don't think wool should wick. I'm not an expert however.

What kind of covers do you have?

Ideally, your wool will not wick, and should be perfectly fine under pants.

There are several factors that can cause wicking, though:

-Compression: a notorious one - really tight pants could cause wicking.

-Lanolization: like Rach said, wool needs to be kept lanolized.

-Loose knitting or wool yarn too thin

-Not rotating between diaper changes

Honestly, I have much better luck with my wool than I did when I was still using PUL. That stuff always wicked terribly for me.

Yeah they are all lanolized, thats the weird part. I just redid them all too. I have a bunch of different kinds....busy bee hive, starbunz, 2 soakers, merino stacinator, regular stacinator, aristocrat (this doesnt leak though). I switch them out too. The soakers are the worst but then the merino (which is the best feeling for softness) sucks too. LOL I think I may just have a super pee'r. Summer will probably be better when she doesnt have to wear clothes over them.
