Kefir and pregnancy

Thread Starter
I'm trying to get enough protein in pregnancy and cut down on cheese consumption - I thought kefir would be a good way to go but I came across a link saying homemade kefir could be alcoholic and might be bad for a pregnancy woman to consume. Anyone heard this before?

Thanks for your help.

Hey mama,
Hmmmm, I've never heard of Kefir being bad for preg....Also it has no alcohol, what ever you read/saw they must be referring to the natural fermentation process of kefir...So maybe they were talking about all fermented foods????

To boost your protein have you checked out Nutiva's hemp protein powder? I took it while preg. it's yummy added to smoothies!

Here's a very quick lis tof high protein foods:

Almonds 1/2 cup = 13 grams
Whole Wheat bread 1 slice= 2.1 grams
Brewer's Yeast (DON'T CONFUSE W/BAKING YEAST, NEVER EAT BAKING YEAST) 1 Tbls = 3.1 grams
Swiss Cheese, 1 0z = 7.8 grams
Chicken breast, 4 0z = 42 grams
Cottage Cheese, 1/2 Cup = 15 grams
Egg, 1 = 6.5 grams
Navy Beans, 1 cup = 16 grams
Whole Milk, 1 cup, = 8.5 grams
Oatmeal, 1 cup = 4.7 grams
Peanut butter, 1 Tbs. = 4 grams
Refried beans, 1 cup = 15.8 grams
Soymilk, 1 cup = 6.6 grams
Spaghetti , 1 cup = 6.7 grams
Tofu, 1 cup = 20 grams
Yogurt plain, 1 cup = 4.3 grams

Hope this helps!
