help a local baby was taken away for having a uc! - Page 3

I, too, want to know how I can help. Let me at 'em! I want to do a homebirth, (possibly UC) when DH and I are successful with conception.
As soon as anyone finds out addresses or phone numbers, I want to do something.

And as an aside- I find it totally ironic that it takes me several calls to DCFS in IL to get them to investigate true abuse in my kindergarten class- like kids telling me that they're getting hit with "Those things you hang clothes on" or the little guy who came in covered in blood when his adult sibling knocked him in the face. And then when I do call them, they snap at me that they can't investigate the kids' allegations as they are too busy. Well, this thread certainly clears up what they are wasting their time doing!

I too will write a letter & will have this family in my prayers! What a terrible thing to take a baby away from parents who love her & want the best for her. I am sure they chose a UC b/c they thought it was the best choice. It infuriates me that our government feels they have a right to control where a mama gives birth!

im having drama myself, nowhere near this bad though.
i was told to contact http://www.advocatesforpregnantwomen.org/

i cant imagine how hard it is having thier newborn taken from them like that. it makes me so mad.

I have the upmost empath for this mother!!

I do have one quesiton though, your origional post was a few days ago... have they gone to court yet?
Whenever a child is sheltered by the "Department" all parents have to go to a "shelter hearing" they are as far as I know with in 24 hours of removal.. even on weekends! A shelter hearing is so the judge can decide if the child(ren) need to be sheltered.

i haven't gotten to rad the last page of responses, hopefully after my dc go to bed. Court is scheduled for monday morning and right now, their lawyer is not wanting any stink to be raised about this. CPS has said that the only reason they are "working with them" is because the parents have been so cooperative, so we don't want to mess this up for them. We plan on going to court with them to show our support and then if they dont get the baby back we will head off to picket. When this is all over, there is no way I am letting this go away quietly though. I am so riled up, this is obiviously a subject very close to my heart. I haven't been able to sleep thinking about how lucky we were that some naysayer didn't turn us in..... ugh. I plan on contacting the paper, writing letters to the dr and hospital that called cps, and probably picketing cps just for the heck of it, they should NOT be allowed to punish this family for their birth choices.
...also, they got to see their dd on friday and felt better about the situation after meeting the foster mom. everyone please keep praying for this family and hopefully this will end soon.

I just read all the posts on this horrifying kidnapping(dramatic word,yes-for a dramatic reaction by CPS)I couldn't NOT post something. My husband and I have done foster care off and on for 10 yrs. We've adopted three times, but not through the state system.WHY on earth does CPS spend time(translate "waste"time)taking babies away from parents like this when there are truly actual crimes to children being commited every second but they get left in the shuffle because of the lack of caseworkers?Or the poor caseworker to case ratio?Or the burned out caseworker epidemic? It infuriates me...and I could tell you mamas stories that we have seen and heard firsthand that would make your toes curl from these kids.

In the words of Marvin Gaye,"What's goin' on?"

I am telling you right now.. if that couple signs a case plan with DCF/CPS whatever you want to call it they will for the rest of their lives WISH THEY NEVER EVEN SPOKE TO THEM!!!

Give them that link, read it to them.. do not under any circumstances allow them to sign anything from the Department!! To not agree to jumping through any damn hoops for the Department!! I cannot stress enough, DO. NOT. SIGN. ANYTHING!!!

If they have an atty that tells them it would be in their best intrest to just sign and do what the Departments wants then they NEED TO FIRE HIM and beg, pleed, steal, ect for the $ for a new one!!.. Ok, the steal part was not serious.

I think we all need to do something about promoting awareness in general about UP/UC. Spread the message as it were. Us UCers are very much in the minority here in the USA, and with that down the road we very well could loose our rights to the majority, A.K.A the sheeple.

It's to our advantage to speak up. When people truly understand UC, they won't be afraid of it and consequently won't be inclined to persecute those who do it. I haven't had much attention from the media lately (and haven't actively sought it out in many years) but I got a call from CBS news radio in L.A. a few days ago. They asked me to do a short interview (5 min.) tomorrow (Mon.) at 8:45 Pacific time. They want to ask me questions about UC and also get my opinion on Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' upcoming Scientology birth. I believe you can listen online here -

I don't think I'll have enough time to address this particular case (with CPS) and of course I wouldn't want to do it without the family's consent anyway, but maybe someone else in the media will hear the interview and contact me. After the NY Times article was published in 2002, I was contacted by quite a few magazines, newspapers and television stations.

I've been laying (somewhat) low for the past few years but am ready to get back out there and spread the word!

I'm with Zamber--make it BIG! Let's all make it big. Let us know what we can do to fight for freedom of educated choice! Best wishes to the family!!!!!!!!!!!

*I was raised by a social worker for CPS. I know things can be ridiculously insane, maybe more these days than when I was a kid, but they do help A LOT of children, too. There are some awful parents out there, too.

I agree to a point. I recently worked with CPS because my younger sisters were being sexually abused by their step-father (and my "mother" refused to believe it :Puke ). I became the relative placement, which involves regular home visits by a CPS case worker. Not as bad as I thought, and they didn't even blink when they heard about my UC (my "mother" tried to use that against me. I love how that backfired on her). However, I am greatful that above all I knew my rights. It's when you are not prepared that things can go very wrong.

I am interested to know the name of the town so that I can avoid living there in the future ~ or is it mostly friendly and just a few rogue jerks? WA generally is fairly AP-friendly, but the Eastern and central areas tend to be more conservative and mainstream. Please keep updating; if the family loses custody of their child and decides to allow a letter writing campaign I would gladly participate. Has the governor been contacted? I'm not sure what Gregoires stance on UC is but I do recall the Lockes being very family-friendly. If there is anything that other WA residents can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask.

Several posts have been removed from this thread for various user agreement violations. I do want to point out that while this forum is not exclusively defined as support only, it would be a violation of our user agreement to post in a baiting or intentionally adversarial manner and posters should be advised to come with an open-mind to learn about unassisted childbirth even if they disagree with its premises.

Additionally, I would like to remind everyone to report posts that may be a UA violation as opposed to responding to them with posting that also violates the UA.

I'm not sure why this even needs to be said. We all know that there are truly abused children out there and that CPS finds some of them. Regardless, it is still a corrupt organization with an unreasonable and frightening amount of power and something needs to be done about that.

It amounts to ignorance about what UC is, I think. People think that we are doing it either because we don't have concern for our children's well-being, or because we are simple enough not to understand the "danger", and in either case that makes us unfit to parent in general.

And yes, let's not mince words, it is a very much a kidnapping.

I'd really like know the town where this is happening. Perhaps, OP, you will let us know?

Regarding my radio interview, apparently I'm not as important as John Kerry! He was in town and they decided to give him my slot! I'll be on tomorrow (Tues.), same bat time, same bat channel - 8:45am Pacific time, http://www.knx1070.com
