Mama cloth? - Page 2

I really like www.vajpads.com

I think they are very affordable. They are a all-in-one pad, don't shift, bunch up, and they are nice and thin. She has beautiful fabric choices, and they are very well made.

Teresa is great about doing custom pads (I like mine longer, and backed with flannel instead of fleece), and she hasn't charged me more for the customizing.

If you are worried about heavy bleeding, I would have her made the pads with PUL, a fleece back, and consider getting the post-partum pads.

I have the mini pads, made without PUL, and no fleece backing to use as a daily panty liner.

This is amount that works well for me - 14 panty liners, 3 post partum pads, 5 overnight pads, and 5 regular pads.

Have you checked out what's on Etsy? (www.etsy.com) Lots of different WAHMS and styles on there!

Make your own!!!

I also use the diva cup but for the last few days of my period I hate putting it in and decided I would make my own pads. Making your own is way cheaper then buying them and I felt very proud of myself even if every one of them was not perfect. Once I made a few I got the hang of it and perfected the modified pattern.

For some reason I literally had like 100 flannelette recieving blankets and made pads from them. The flannelette is super absorbant and works great. Sometimes I use them for the whole period because I'm too lazy sometimes. BTW, my periods are heavey and long But I must also add this bit of info- when I started to use the diva and the pads the cramping has been minimal, compared to absolutley life haltering cramps.

I used Adahy's pattern but changed it a bit. Just made it a bit larger all around. http://shewhorunsintheforest.googlepages.com/

Ahhh yes, the horrors of high school. Countless times I had puddles and had to wrap my sweatshirt around my waist. One time I just left to change after I went to the office, begged for a pass, and got a simple "who cares." I actually went back to school!!

I have to add a vote for homemademama.com. I love her pads! They are nicely shaped, trim, and work really well (though I do have light periods).
I just got some ama'z pads, and I they look really nice and I like the design. I haven't tried them yet.

I have 6 med/heavy (including 2 ama'z pads with 1 liner), 4 light/med flow, 2 pantiliners, and 2 other pads that are a bit too short that I could use in a pinch.
That will be plenty for me. I started out with about half, and that wasn't too bad- I just had to do laundry a couple times during my period.

I have some closeout specials on Bamboo Velour/ Windpro Pads - 3 for $10. That's less than material cost. (nothing wrong with them - just a discontinued style)

Check it out if you if you like: www.batikbags.etsy.com

I also want to add my vote for homemademama.com. I haven't used my pads yet since AF hasn't returned yet, but I do wear pantyliners and they are really comfy. I have some pink lemonade pads and liners coming as well which I have heard are really good (we'll see).

Oh, and does anyone have a daughter old enough that she is menstruating and using mamacloth? I went the conventional/commercial route myself for most of my menstruating life, but my 9yo dd (who hasn't started yet) is getting closer and I just can't fathom buying that stuff for her or having her use it...

Thanks!

I'm using the mama cloth and have a 16 year old daughter. She is 100% against using them, I don't say anything to her, I know she will eventually come around to my view point. I'd just make them available for her and let her make her own initial decision.

That's my leaning, too...just b/c I can't imagine her using commercial stuff doesn't mean she shouldn't choose? Thank you for your reply!
