Hey all. Just checking in. My ds is getting in his top two molars and WOW is he every grumpy. He goes from being happy to full on tantrum over ??? I have no clue sometimes. We haven't even tried to potty learn yet. He doesn't seem to interested at all. Allthough the other day he was running around with out his diaper on an started to pee, he quite peeing, looked down grabbed his winky an said uh oh and then peed again. DH and I laughed so hard. It was cute.
We brought him to the dentist and he has no cavities. He had to have two teeth removed at 18 months because of severe decay. So we are very happy that there is no sign of any decay in his mouth

My nephew was born 2 days ago and Aidan and I went to visit him yesterday. Holy crap! Aidan's a "big" kid now! What a realization that my little baby isn't so little anymore!

I know what you mean. Ds is now the age dd was when I got pregnant with him. It was amazing to me how much she grew the day he was born. Until then she was my little baby. My SIL is due in September and I'm sure we'll have another dose of that.

Bumping up...

We had a rough night last night with a HORRIBLE night terror. (See my post on the Family Bed and Nighttime Parenting board). Anyone else started these?

I remember those from dd. She even had one a few weeks ago. They can be so heartwrenching, but at least you're the only one who will remember. It's amazing how the next morning they wake up like nothing happened.

how did you snap him out of it?

I'll have to find the link for you, but what I read said you shouldn't try to rouse them during a night terror.

Here we go..

That must have been so upsetting I hope he is ok. Just wanted to suggest Rescue Remedy might help him too if it happens again and he is awake. Hope it doesn't though. Scary.

I didn't snap him out of it...we rode along with it (frustratingly) and he finally wore himself out, I think, as he flung himself on his bed (which he doesn't sleep in any other time) and quieted down.

I've heard conflicting reports for and against waking them. Thanks for the link, I'll check that out.

How weird! I was just reading the posts about the night terrors last night before bed and remembering when Abi had some horrible ones. But Nitara hasn't had any yet. Well at 3:30 this morning she had one. She seemed like she was awake and even responded to us talkin sometimes. But she was possessed and screaming and flailing around. She said she had bugs on her feet with spikes and she wanted them off. Then she started to grab the back of her neck and said there were bugs on her neck too. I have never heard her scream like that before! It lasted a good 20 minutes and she very slowly came out of it. She ended up sleeping with us last night, with her feet covered by her blankie to protect it from bugs, and her head on my chest like she was using me as a recliner, and we had to put on her Sesame Street music and the desk light. Poor thing. She has a big bug phobia from last spring when she stepped in an ant hill and had bugs crawling all over her body and biting her. Yesterday we saw some ants coming out of an ant hill for the first time this season so it must have caused the bad dream.

Ds is 26 months now. I have an endless battle getting him to eat-all he wants to ever do is drink. We've been doing so many activities lately that I think he's getting burnt out (or at least I am) So I think Im going to start spending more time at home for a bit. Its become increasingly difficult to take him to any store because he just wants to pull everything off the shelf and put it in the cart and does not want to sit in the cart.

I am so excited DD is working on her potty learning (I think) and SIL gave her some "Hello Kitty" panties : anyhow I was really skeptical about it but DD of course loved them so I figured we would try. Well she went all day and used the potty about 5 times, and had one accident yesterday evening then (amazingly) was dry all night (in a diaper plus the panties). So I guess we will keep working on it! She does not want to poop on the potty though so hope she poops soon. Not exactly sure how to proceed but I am sure I will figure it out.

DD had not had any actual night terrors like Nitara and Aidan but had definitely had a couple of nightmares where she was mumbling about things and scared and we had to leave the light on. Thats scary and upsetting though. She often wakes up talking about something and has obviously been dreaming though, often about something we had done in the day or her toys.

have you tried smoothies? my dd goes through no-eating phases but she'll still consume smoothies like they're going out of style. i doctor them up with flax seed oil, wheat germ & protein powder along with rice milk, bananas, yogurt, berries and whatever else you've got on hand--we buy alot of frozen fruit for this purpose. there are lots of good smoothie ideas in dr. sears' baby book. that's what has gotten us through the times she doesn't want to eat.

{{{Nitara}}} Poor baby!

Oh, on the "baby" label. DH asked Aidan the other night if he was his baby and he said "No, I not a baby...I a KID!" It was just so cute, his enthusiasm and the way he hit himself on the chest to emphasize the KID part.

Nikolas went pee in the potty for the first time last week. He hasn't done it since, but he sits down on the potty and tries to go. I think he wants to be like his brother.

I'm still wondering if he needs to be evaluated for speech. He is talking more, but a lot of his words are still unclear. He also leaves the ending off of most words. He says da for dog, and ta for top. It seems to be words that end in a consanant. He can say mommy and daddy fairly clearly. I'm just not sure how much longer I should wait to have him evaluated.

He is doing pretty well with his eating. He weighed 25 lbs. at the GI in March and no longer needs to see the GI for low weight gain. He eats more than his brother and sister do.

My Luke does this too. We checked out a book at the library I was so excited because I felt like he knew most of the words, and I'm bragging to my dad about it. Then we read the book together and he did that with every word, and I realized I hadn't even noticed he does that. DP and I can understand him, so we had just mentally been filling in the last sound. I think it's normal, and there are distinct differences. We can totally tell the difference between words like Book, and Ball, and Bird even though really they sound pretty close the way he says them.

Here's a fun update about eating. I'm always concerned about the fact that my son eats such small amounts of food. So today we have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. The usual is I cut it into quarters and he picks at one quarter I eat 3/4 of the sandwich. He ate half a grilled cheese sandwich today. Which of course left me hungry cause I only had half and I heated up a piece of left over pizza for myself. He ate that too!

Avery is 26 months now! She's such a big girl. She's pretty good with the potty as long as she is in undies or naked. We haven't pushed, she just really likes to use her pink potty! She's been a naked kid for many months now and has evolved into using the potty. The last week she has only had two accidents and been in undies/naked probably 75% of the time!

As a strong willed baby, I was worried how she would handle toddlerhood but she's been great! As long as I abide by the "mommy rules" (not taking her out when she's tired, feeding her when she's hungry, letting her get a whole two hour nap, etc.) we do fine.

She talks a blue streak and says such funny things... Her new phrase is "Not today, Mom." It's easier on the ears than "NO."

Still nursing... 3 to 5 times a day or so... We are working on sleeping in her own bed, usually from 8:30 to 12:30 or so and then in with us. she loves her "little bed" and prefers to fall asleep in there. My bed feels so empty without her! We are TTC starting in June and I just want to keep her a baby as long as possible

Bump!

Its May!

How is everyone doing?

Also how is using the potty going? DD was doing great for a few days then refused to go on the potty at all for some reason, so we have backed off. I was so excited for a while!

potty is spotty at best.
dd uses it every night before bed. sometimes when i change her diaper it's dry so i sit her on the potty and sometimes she pees and sometimes she doesn't. no pooping in the potty yet. she tells me "i'm hiding" when she's gonna poop but has no interest in the potty at that time. i'm hoping for a crash course this summer with lots of naked time.
