Jan/Feb 04 Toddlers - April Thread! - Page 3

Still no interest in the potty. It's there for him to sit on and pretend, but if I ask if he wants to take his diaper off and go pee in there he says no.
We're making progress...he's actually coming to me after he poops now!

NO interest in the potty at all, but at least he's recognizing it, and saying "poopie, change diaper?" when he needs it.

Now, to just try to coordinate it all...i have a potty upstairs where I work soI need to get it all coordinated to put the poops in there when they're solid enough and then put in the big toilet, etc. etc.

So, not a huge change, but it's a little progress, I suppose!

DD was peeing in the potty, but now she won't. Except she will sit on it and say I do a little pee-pee and produce one or two drops. So I say thats great - can you do a big pee-pee (kind of jokingly) but she won't! Maybe she has discovered she has control over it though and I just go along with it? Toddlers!!

Max had slowed down on the pottying. It was a big deal for a while, but he's not as interested now. Oh well.

Otherwise, he's great! He has officially learned the word "MINE!", so he is truly in the midst of toddlerhood. He continues to be a joy and loves, loves, loves his daddy right now. He'll even tell me to leave if he wants to be with daddy only, it's so cute and such a relief for me, even if it's just a five or ten minute break.

Aidan will do this too, and he's taken to hiding behind the dishwasher in the corner to poop in privacy too, so there's some recognition of what is happening at least.

We've had another language explosion here, and he's just being silly as can be. He saw a fly and asked "Is it a bee?" "No, it's a fly." "It's a fly?" "Yep, a fly." "A bee?" followed by major laughter at his "joke".

If asked where his brother is, it doesn't matter what time of day or if he's in bed or not, he's always "At a ballgame!"

oh yes! my dd loves doing this. she likes all kinds of silly word play. she has an elmo doll and she loves to do things with his name like "tellmo", "jellmo" and the all-time hit "smellmo". she will bust a gut laughing so hard at these things. it's really really cute.

We're having fun with humor too. Ds used to point to my nose and say mow and then laugh. He knew it was his nose because if you asked him where his nose was he could point to it but he liked to say mow. Well, he hadn't done that in a long time and then just the other day he started it again. This time he really knows he can make me laugh. He also likes to say the opposite of what he means just to see my reaction.

He has named himself Nino (instead of Xander) and insists that everyone calls him that. It used to be Mickey Mouse until his 2nd birthday, so I guess we're getting closer. A little playmate came over the other day and she was calling him Naner and he said, "I not Naner, I'm Nino!" She didn't get it. My mom calls him El Nino (with the little thing above the second n - my keyboard doesn't have one.) It suits him.

I bought ds(26m) "The Little Engine that Could" video from a thrift store since he loves trains and now he is always begging me to watch it. He is more sure of himself though than the little engine lol because instead of "I think I can" ds says "I can, I can!" he says it anytime he walks up steps or a hill and when he gets to the top he yells "I CAN!!!" and puts his arms up.

Nikolas hasn't peed in the potty since my last post, but he did take off his diaper yesterday and then he peed on the floor. So maybe he was trying to get to the potty. He definately knows when he needs to go or is wet. He says "pee pee, pee pee".

He still won't say his name. Instead he is "Me". He finally has names for his siblings now too. Kacey is "Tee Tee", and Lucas is "Lu".

He said a pretty clear sentence yesterday. He said, "Me eyes are blue". His eyes actually are blue, so it was cute.

DD pooped in the potty yesterday twice!

After she pooped she said "Look - I made a little caterpillar"! LOL

She is holding out on the urine and does one or two drops.

She has told us for a long time when she pooped and when she needs her diaper changed and will take it off it its dirty or she needs to pee, so I feel we are getting close, she just has to feel comfortable using the potty I think. I think maybe we had a setback because the accidents upset her though so she is back in diapers mostly with no cover, or I put the panties over it. I will be glad when she is PT now though.

Anyone else have a spirited toddler? DD is so emotional and it gets quite draining. I know a lot of it is the age, but she was a very high needs baby turned into a very emotional toddler. Phew! Today at the library everyone's kids were sitting down and DD kept running outside and wanted to go downstairs to find the giant Clifford they have there, she is just not very distractable, but we waited it out, and she had fun, and then she played with some toys with the other kids and then went to find him so I think we made some progress.

Well, we had our experiences with the library too...DS got kicked out. Not officially, but he was in the 2 year old class (a parent stays with them for a half hour craft/story time once a week) and was on the younger side of 2 where the rest were closer to 3.

He did good with the simple craft, but he wouldn't sit for a story and was even KICKING the kids sitting in front of him. I removed him from the room a couple of times and then talked with the librarian and we decided he just wasn't ready.

She did rearrange the order a bit, so he could come in and do puzzles and crafts, but when it came time for the story, we would just quietly leave.

Fern always does that, she inspects her poops and declares It's a nake! (snake) or (if its coiled up a bit) it's a nail (snail) or if its a big lump It's like a house! She is very proud of her poops

We had to stop going to the library for about 6 months because they expected them to sit still - there is a huge difference between 18 mo and 3 and thats what the particular library had as an age group. This new library has more activities not just reading and sometimes DD does great, other times we have had to leave! They do have 30 mins afterwards to play with toys and she loves that part!

No more potty since last week but we were gone on a trip and now she has a nasty cold so figured we would wait.

More language explosion...Aidan was upset yesterday because his older brother and I were leaving for older brother's soccer game (he is just WAY too much to handle over there lately, it's crowded and I needed a break). His brother was trying to give him a hug to calm him down and he pointed at him and shouted "No! You a mama's boy!" I didn't know if I should , or !
I haven't even started the potty stuff. He shows zero interest.

He says 7 words now. mama, dada, ball, ish (fish), bird, brofer (brother) and of course no. It's too cute to hear him call his brother. He never says his name just "brofer!"

He is so into pretending now. He's a dog everyday. I have to feed him food in a bowl on the floor when the mood strikes him. He chases imaginary balls and brings them back. He cooks with the play kitchen and serves us the meals he prepares. He "reads" books. He makes noise all the time. He doesn't speak much or well but he is always singing a tune or making random sounds.

He has perfected screeching when angry.

I love to just sit back and watch my boys play together.

i LOVE the pretending.
zoey pretends to be a doggy and i have to walk her on her leash telling her to sit periodically. she puts "little" before every animal. so she is little hippo, doggie, frog, fish, cat, gorilla, etc. i'll say to her "do you want a banana zoey?" and she'll say "i'm little monkey" and you need to refer to her as that until she becomes something else.

Thats so cute!

DD's biggest thing right now is sticking her Winnie The Pooh everywhere and declaring him stuck and pulling out with very dramatic groans and moans. She loves the story where he gets stuck in rabbits's cave.

Their imaginations are amazing.

So while I'm in the bathroom (I mean does mama ever get to go) my exploring toddler climbed up the bar stool and found the butter dish. I walked out to see him sitting on the piano bench. The bench, piano, and his hair, face, and ears are covered with butter. When I tried telling him "no smearing butter everywhere" he pats my face, says "mama" in the sweetest voice, and gives me a big butter hug. How can you stay upset?
