Need help with joining on circ needles!!

Okay, I am knitting this a felted clog pattern from Fiber Trends. I followed the instructions for the bottom....worked on circs but not joined. Now, I have to join them and knit a round.

I tried and the stockinette was on the inside on the work, not facing me. When I try to do it the other way, it doesn't make sense.

I have joined before, but right after casting on. I am so confused right now, lol.

Please

I think I can explain cause I sometimes confuse myself...

when you join and start to knit around, be sure the work is working its way downward off the needles and not upward...in other words, if you see the pearl side right now, just push your work down throught he needles to see hte knit side...does that make sense?

All in all, you aren't messing up, just working it inside out! (i think... )

are the tips of the needles pointed towards you, close to your body? or pointed away from you, farther from your body? They should be pointing towards you, clsoe to your body. Arrange them that way, with the stockinette facing out and the purl side facing into the center and it should work

Geez, thanks! I was knitting backwards. THe work was facing me, but the needles were far away, lol. Thank you, no wonder it was backwards!

I saw my gma knitting a hat in the round, and she had the needles pointed at her. It was so WEIRD - looked so awkward. Apparently *I* have been knitting in the round backwards??? I just did the casting on, and then started knitting... and I thought I was doing it just fine... but I'm not? I'm self taught (except for online help tutorials), so I guess I probably taught myself backwards... but hey, at least I'm comfortable doing it. When the needles point at you, don't your wrists get sore?

And, yes, when I was knitting in the round, my work was inside out.

I have made this http://www.fernandfaerie.com/freesoakerpattern.html in the flat, and was planning on starting one in the round soon. Do I also have to point my needles towards myself while working?

Thank you, I am glad to learn this BEFORE I start!

Otherwise, short rows are a total, total pita. I had to completely reteach myself to knit once I realised I was knitting backwards

Darn it! Sounds like I need to take a trip to my LYS and ask them to show me how to do this. Darn! I learned wrong? Geez, how'd that happen?! ARGH!

P.S. I'm glad this was brought up, I would've never thought it would effect the shorties I'm about to make!

I don't get it! So . . . the round side of the circ is away from your body? How is it even physically possible to knit this way?!? I have knit many, many things, mostly soakers(with short rows) and some socks, on circs
--successfully!!!--and always knit with the needles pointed away from me. Basically, as though I am straight knitting, but with the round part of the circ near my belly instead of the ends of two sticks. Am I just not understanding what you ladies are saying? Oh, and I am not self-taught--I learned in a sock knitting class at my LYS--which only adds to my confusion.
