For Meat Eaters

I am planning on making the committment to only buying free-range, hormone free, etc. meat from now on (we mostly just eat chicken and turkey).

My question is how do you know what brands to buy? We live in an area where the closest natural market is an hour away and so I was wondering if there are brands within the mainstream markets that promise the above mentioned. I thought I heard at one point that "Foster Farms" does free range chicken.

We figure that we might just have to talk to our local butcher and see if he knows any particular farms that practice this way and then go from there.

Also, what about fish? We don't want to buy farm raised fish but how can you tell?

We buy our meat straight from the farm, usually. Foster Farms was no hormones when I was a kid...I don't know about now. See if there is an organic or biodynamic farm nearby where you could buy meat. We split a half cow with friends and the meat is so tasty!

Rocky chickens are free range. We have a chicken farm with organic free range chickies nearby, but sometimes we grow them in the backyard with our hens for eggs, and yes, we live in town.
