Please keep Eben in your thoughts/prayers. He came via c-section (Franklin breech) and was covered in merconium with shallow breathing.

what absolutely sucks is that he has been transferred across town and they've no room for SIL there

I wish there were something i could do...just a whole lot of hoping/praying.

to your SIL. May Eben be with her as soon as possible. May she be able to be with him as soon as possible.

Some ideas that I'm sure you've already thought of:
Once she's recovered enough from the surgery to travel to the NICU hospital as a visitor, could you bring her meals and things in the hospital so she doesn't have to go away from him as often? Could you transport her pumped milk to be used to feed him (that'd actually probably help fight the infection)?

Thinking of them. Here's to hoping he heals soon. And that she has a full recovery as well.

Just a thought - when your SIL is ok to leave her hospital after 2-3 days usually. While my ds was in NICU and I got discharged on day 2, I refused to go home - well for the first night at least. I slept in a recliner chair in NICU parents lounge. Anyway a NICU nurse took pity on me and suggested to the Dr. to put both ds and me in the pediatric ward - mother's often sleep over in the ped ward. So ds was still a NICU patient but ds's insurance was paying and I could sleep there with him. It was so much better than going home - I had a bed, I got meals and supplies delivered and I could rest and look after my ds.

I think it helped the NICU nurses saw me coming into the NICU every 3 hours and doing his care (temp, diapers, feeds etc). They trusted me and they pretty much left me alone in peds, just checking him now and then. They even brought me a Bf pump to use in ds's room. BTW he just had jaundice and was breathing ok, maintaining body temp by the time they did this. Sounds like your SILs babe does need NICU right now but when he's doing better, it's worth suggesting something like this. It frees up a NICU bed too, and is less work for the nurses.

Also the NICU might have a BF pump room if he's not nursing yet.

thinking of your family. we went through a week ofthis in the summer with respiratory issues. it is emotionally draining. 7 months later and you would never know our guy struggled so hard to breathe.

He's doing much better,

and off of the oxygen, etc. Dad has been carting SIL's bm from her across town to their ds. He has been the first to feed him...i saw them yesterday. He's a beautiful and BIG baby! Hard to believe such a whopper even spent time in NICU! SIL is getting out today/night and will be with Eben soon!

Thansk everyone!
