Alaskan sourdough starter?

Thread Starter
I have been using Alaskan sourdough starter. It is stored at room temp and is suppose to be fed daily. I usually forget and only feed it every other day. I can tell that it suffers from my lack of attention. My question is, what do I do when on vacation? I really do not want to have to kennel my starter or take it with us (I am kidding). Is there a way to have it "hibernate" for a week or two? Someone should make an automatic sourdough feeder like they have for fish and cats......

Im not sure, but do you have a friend or family member who can babysit it for you while your gone?

Is alaskan sourdough different from regular sourdough? You should be able to keep it in the fridge while you are on vacation. I keep my starter in the fridge and only feed it every other week sometimes.I think they are pretty hardy. It makes the best bread.

I know very little about sourdough but the person who gave it to me said it needs to be at room temp. I am wondering if putting it in the fridge will just make it go dormant until we get back and I can take it back out then? Anyone know?

I think you can stick it in the fridge. It will just go dormant.
