All you mama's: over due, not yet due, almost due......

I just got another bottle. I am taking 2,000 mgs. a day. Too much?

How many weeks are you and how much EPO are you taking/ inserting?

I'm inserting six capsules every night~I don't have the bottle in front of me, but they are smallish. (((((HUGS))))) sandi

mine are like horse pills. i swallow 1,300 mg morning and then at night. it may be too much but my husband said that my body wouldnt absorb it all. not that he knows but i kind of made sence to me. i dont know how EPO works exactly and i am pretty sure its out of your system in a few hours??? no clue. its not doing anything for me so far that i can tell.

1500 a night here...that's what my midwife recommended.

I'm not inserting at all, but on my MW's recommendation I've been cycling through with an oral dosage of 5-4-3-2-1 pills over a week. It seems to be doing something, I notice more bits of plug coming out now and then.

Betsy-
What do you mean by 5-4-3-2-1-?

How many weeks are all of you?

Just curious!

O.K. so maybe I am really out of the loop, but I was just wondering what EPO was. I tried to do a search and nothing came up. Is this the secret to getting my labor started? Thanks ladies!

It won't get labor started, necessarily. It is a wonderful herb called Evening Primrose Oil. Basically, it is has two fatty acids in it that are essential and are the building block for prostoglandins. (you need prostaglandins to go into labor...that's why people say "have sex" b/c semen contains LOTS of prostaglandins.) So, it gets your cervix soft (for most people) and can prepare things a little quicker. BUT... it won't put you into labor until your body is ready. As you well know, your body has to do a WHOLE lot more to go into labor (hormones, etc...) to go into labor. So, it is quite safe, in my opinion.

Not pregnant anymore, but I was putting in about 3 - 6 capsules/night and took some by mouth also, for good measure

when taking it by mouth, if you get diarrhea cut back a bit because too much can give you the runs (the beginnings of labor can also be evidenced by diarrhea...so cut back and if you still have it, you may just be heading into labor-land)

Oh, my doula mentioned that to me. How early did you start taking it? DH is sure sex is the best way to get the prostaglandins, which is getting a little uncomfortable and awkward. Thanks for the information. I hope I won't go past the due date this week, but if so I'll keep it in mind

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear- 5 capsules one day, then 4 the next, 3, 2, 1, and then start over. My MW said it helps given things a rest or something. I'm sure there's nothing particularly scientific about it.

I have been taking 2-4 capsules (1,000 mg each) daily depending on if I remember. Yesterday I took 5.

Sometimes I've been inserting them, but not every night.

I'm 40 weeks 2 days today.

I am forty weeks and three days, and my midwife had me begin inserting EPO two weeks ago, as we know from my last three babies that I tend to be very overdue. She said that she finds inserting to be more potent? Better absorbancy? OH I can't remember her exact words~than taking it orally. (((((HUGS)))))) sandi

I want to insert them, but I am afraid the when my dr. does an exam that she might feel a piece of the outside of the pill that may not have absorbed yet. That would be so embarrasing...and not to mention, what would I say???? LOL! Anyway- my next apt is Thursday.

Have you ladies noticed anything kind of left over, or working back down? Or, does your body absorb the ENTIRE PILL??
it's just like one of those vit E capsules, it's a liquid and so it absorbs fine (my midwife even poked a hole in it to get it to ooze out of the gelatin capsule faster).....I never had anything come out except a little bit of the EPO oil itself but not the gelatin capsule....but your doc will prob just think it's normal mucus!

You could always skip the night before your appointment, and all would be fine. When I go potty at night the gel casings come out~I guess because I've only laid there for such a little bit of time. (((((HUGS)))) sandi

I take 2g/day. Not trying to induce labor, just taking the "final four" herbs to ripen things. I started at 37 weeks as I did with my DD and she came right on time.
