Do you still buy diapers, or does making them fulfill your needs (and wants)?

I love making diapers. I like how well I can make them fit DS. I like that I can make diapers with licensed characters. I have more diapers than we need.

but....

We just got a hefty tax refund and even though I'm planning on buying a snap press and a bunch of material, I bought 2 wool soakers and two swaddlebees fitteds today. : And two dozen flats.

I can justify the soakers because I can't knit, but the swaddlebees were just frivolous spending. I don't need them, they just looked so yummy. And it's not everyday that I have a little cash to blow. We're usually pretty broke.

I have a friend that can knit and sew beautifully, but she still buys diapers in addition to what she makes. I never understood until now.

Anybody else?

I have made all of my diapers so far and plan on not buying any as long as I can sew. **I did make an exception to this for 8 Medium Fuzzibunz as part of a trade. I sewed some toddler totes for her girls in exchange for the diapers.** I can't afford to buy diapers though if I can make them just as well for a few bucks.

I haven't bought a diaper since I started sewing them. If I start getting a yearning for a diaper that someone else made, I sign up for a diaper swap and that takes care of it.

I've tried a bunch of stuff, but still prefer my own fitteds to anything so far. I don't have a snap press though and so, I have bought covers for my fitteds. I love aplix on my fitteds, but have to have snap covers. I did buy a snap setter to put metal snaps on the clothes I am making though. Last week I made 2 covers - one fleece and one wool - I put metal snaps on them and they are working great. So, now I don't have an excuse to buy covers either. My bigger problem is that I have tons of fabric, but I keep buying more. I was in Joann's today - they had $2 flannel. I only bought 2/3 of a yard of one and a remnant of another, but I stuffed them under the seat in my car so I didn't have to bring them in the house when DH is looking. I'll bring them in tomorrow when he is at work.: - the sign of a true addiction.

I went on a diaper buying splurge a few months ago, in another attempt to find the "perfect" diaper for dd. Then I decided it was ridiculous to buy them when I had everything I needed to make her some sitting in containers.

So one day, I started seriously trying to make them. I've made three so far plus two training pants for my other dd, and I have to say, I love to make them now! I love shopping for the fabric, finding everything to coordinate, and having that sense of accomplishment when I've finished one.

And ironically, after searching for the trim yet absorbant perfect diaper, turns out the ones I've made for her fit that bill better than any I've bought (the Darling Diaper AIO pattern!)

:

I can't afford both the disposable diapers I already use (DS can only use huggies, NOT cheap) plus all the supplies for making my own CD's, PLUS premade CD's...just can't happen

The only things I buy are prefolds and covers - prefolds because it's cheaper to buy them than make them, and covers for the same reason because I get them cheeeeep at consignment/secondhand stores.

I have considered buying a swaddlebees to inspect it and see if I can make something similar myself

This is my excuse for buying diapers. I like to see what all the buzz is about. I have incorporated my favorite aspects of WAHM dipes into my sewing pattern as I experiment and see all the options. Normally, when dipe shopping, I keep it to a $6 or less budget (ie good deal on used dipes), since that is what it costs me to sew one organic dipe. But, I just had to try a new OV Swaddlebees when an online retailer emailed me about a sale on them. Splurges like that don't happen very often, though.

I justify buying diapers as 'diaper research'. So far, my dh is humoring me. I do like to see what the different designs and fabrics are like, and I think trying a variety really helped me figure out what I do and don't like in a diaper. I've also found the different cuts and sewing techniques to be fascinating. I know, I'm a geek.

I like sewing diapers because I like to sew and because there is not a single diaper out there that offers all the features I like and want.

THIS IS ME!!! I did the same thing yesterday. lol.

I do occasionally buy dipes. usually used, but sometimes new. I am getting three fuzzibunz this week. I like to see how other fit in comparison to mine, and if they work better, then I try and alter my pattern. I guess this is the worst kind of addiction....making AND buying. lol

I haven't bought a single diaper since I made my first. I have been using covers that were given to me. But, I just love my diapers and making them fit perfectly! I almost bought a couple more Crickett's hemp for nighttime, but I just couldn't shell out the $30 for them.

yup! I still buy them...like most of you, I like to compare and then improve on my own pattern(s). DH humors me since it's still less expensive than sposies. In fact when I mentioned wanting to learn how to knit he said something like, "I really like your sewing hobby- it's so inexpensive."
(I had been experimenting with diapers made from recycled materials)

I do consider my diaper making to be somewhat of an obsession, not to mention that I keep buying new ones. But, obsessions could be a lot more UNhealthy...so, I try to see it in a positive light!

That's me. I've bought quite a few yards of fabric that dh knows nothing about. I think he assumes that it's leftovers from a time when I went crazy buying fabric. I'm not about to tell him otherwise unless he straight out asks!

I haven't bought any pre-made diapers yet. If I had more money there are a few I'd buy in the name of "diaper research" though
