Help me diaper my nightime super-soaker newborn!

We use XS VB AIOs (3-layer terry soaker, alova suede inner) for the most part, we change before every feeding (2.5-3 hours) and he does fine, a leak every once in awhile.

Nighttime is another story. He goes 3.5-4.5 hours at night and just SOAKS his aios, so he needs a full diaper & clothing change every time he wakes up. Not fun.

Last night I put him in an XS VB pocket stuffed with a 5 layer soaker (3 terry, two birdseye) wrapped with a microfiber towel, and in 9 hours he soaked THE WHOLE THING. (I don't even think I could have done that ) he only soaked through it a little, but it was SOOOO bulky!

Today I'm going to make a wool soaker & a flannel fitted with an 8 layer soaker and see how that does for tonight.

Anyone have any ideas of what we could try? Our daytime system is fine, but nighttime could obviously use some fine tuning.

TIA!

same prob here... he soaks through everyhting. using the aristocrat keeps the bedding dry, even though it's super bulky over a crickett's with toddler doubler -- that's 9 layers of hemp! and it's soaking wet! i can't stuff my pockets enough to keep him dry, either.

I think you're on the right track with the wool over a fitted route. I make pocket fitteds for our 11.5 month old and top it off with wool and they work quite nicely. You might want to consider the same so that if you find you don't have enough absorbancy you can just stuff some more in there and it'll still dry in a reasonable time!

If your having toruble fitting enough inserts into your pockets, i suggest sizing up, that way there will be more room for inserts. I find combining a microfiber insert with a hemp one works really well, but my dd isn't a supersoaker anymore (at about 3months it was another story).

I'd also suggest making wool (or 2 layer fleece) pants instead of conventional covers. They don't need to be knit, you can just sew them from any sort of wool. Or make them out of the arms of an old wool sweater. The looseness of the pants make it less likely for you to have compression wicking.

Not really a diy, but what I have found works the best (surprisingly) is 2 prefolds (regular premium size) with a hemp doubler and a wool cover. I lay out one prefold, fold the second prefold in fourths (serged edge to serged edge, then fold again), lay it in the middle then the hemp doubler on top, angel fold, snappi and wool soaker (Mama made LTK) pulled over the top. Bulky? You bet! But the bedding, pjs etc stay dry. The diaper is soaked in the morning but, hey, that's why it's there . DS has always been a supersoaker, and this is the method I finally arrived at after almost a year of trial and error (and error and eeww wet again! and now I'M wet and error )
