So why is it important to not have extra copper in the multi vit? I was just reading this about copper and it got me thinking. I really don't know much about copper, especially it's role in chelation.
In addition to linguistmama's comments, the whole zinc-copper issue is a bit problematic in people with mercury issues. Consuming extra copper reduces the zinc we absorb, and since a lot of us have real issues consuming enough zinc to meet our needs, and we're starting out deficient, well, it's bad. I can see that my kids, for example, even with the bioplasma (which was a great help) still need more supplemenal zinc than most adults. Well, maybe an amount that would be appropriate for most adults, let's say. And they're 40 and 50 pounds.
But I really love Stephan's articles, and it's a good perspective that I hadn't considered all that much. Makes me more dedicated to my raw liver.
Ok, so here's what I think I'm going to order and where. Please let me know what you think. I need to order it tonight.
Double Zinc Picolinate
Basic B Complex
Basic Nutrients III (Citrate W/O Copper & Iron)
B 12 drops
I already have:
Cod liver oil
Does that look like a good list? What am I missing? Is there something better that I should get?
The thorne DMSA only comes in 100mg, right? Where can I get a good price on 25 mg? ALA?
The capsules for both split easily, that's what I did. I can divide the ALA capsules into 6 portions per 100 mg with just a bit of practice--they were cheaper to practice on than the DMSA. I use the smaller part of the gelatin capsule as essentially a measuring cup, and measure the same amount of powder each time, then re-close the capsule and hide the (nasty-tasting) powder in applesauce.
Now, can someone help me with doses?
Zinc (50-100mg) choose something convenient for the products you have, that range sounds fine, you may be able to be closer to 50 if the bioplasma is as helpful for you as for me
Trace minerals I'd say recommended dosage on container
Molybdenum about (1000 mcg)
Magnesium (500-1000 mg in divided doses) VERY individual, I'd split into at least 2 doses unless you just don't need much, if you end up needing a lot, I'd divide into 3 doses... DH does better on 2 doses than 1, I am fine with 1
Thorne multi-vitIf you feel really rundown, start with the full dosage on the bottle, but you may be able to reduce to 1/2 or 2/3 the recommended dosage--bioplasma seems to have done this for me)
Sublingual b 12 at least 2,000 mcg, with tinnitus or weird nerve pains, I'd try more
Vitamin C (bowel tolerance)
Cod liver oil maybe 10,000 IU/day of vitamin A? consider a vitamin D supp as well to balance that, many of us are very, very low in vitamin D, there are lots of affordable ones out there, I think I buy something from vitacost.com that's 5,000 IU per capsule)... I use a fish-oil -type of vitamin D, not the dry powder kind
Milk thistle capsules or ground up whole seeds? ground-up whole seeds can be 2-3 tsp 3x/day, for capsules I'd probably use the upper end of the label dosing, maybe a bit more if you can afford it
I put the ones that I have some idea about, correct me if I'm wrong...
For cost, I use Now brand mag citrate powder, I think I bought it on iherb. The downside, that I didn't realize, is that the instructions say to drink with a full glass of water (or other liquid)--no idea why, but it hasn't killed us yet. But Thorne's very good IMO, difficult to go wrong there.
