How/When are you telling your family?

Just wondering how you are all going to tell your families and when? We have decided to tell them sooner rather than later, because we want them to know. God forbid if something goes wrong, we will have the support and prayers of our families (we both have big, close families).

We think we are going to tell them next weekend on Easter Sunday, since we don't live close by and it will be the first time we will see them. I am thinking of giving them each little easter baskets with either a picture frame or a poem inside (or a poem in a picture frame)....something like this:

"Roses are red, Violets are blue, On December 14th we are going to be three, not just two"

or

"Roses are red, Violets are blue, can you guess when our baby is due?"

Anybody have any better ideas????

We are going to tell our families over Mother's Day weekend (unless the boys spill the beans over Easter). I plan to put one of the u/s pictures we should have by then in a frame for each of them and annouce it that way.

With ds1 we just told everyone the day we got our bfp. With ds2, I think I was around 6 weeks or so. We had ds1 wear a tshirt that said "I'm going to be a big brother".

I already told my Mom, my brother, my Grandparents, my cousins and my best friend. Pretty much the only people left to tell are my Dad and my dh will tell his Sister and his Dad. We have a really small family.

When we found out I told my best friend and dh told his best friend(our best friends are married), but beside that we were going to keep it quiet.................Well we WERE going to keep it quiet until I was past 12 weeks, but our sweet little dd had other ideas.

Apparently she heard DH and I talking about me being pregnant and the baby, cause she told mil the very next day "granny, guess what? We have 2 babies now, me and the one in mommys belly!!!" Mil was very happy for us!

so after that we told fil, and then I told my mom and dad, but we told them all not to tell.............like that will last!!!!!

We are going to tell everyone on April 26th.... Why April 26th you ask... well April 26th is my fil's birthday and also my mil and fil's wedding anniversary. We are going to wrap up a test for them. Then we are going to do the same thing for my parents!

We have told a friend or two, but we wil wait to tell most everyone else until after we are married (June 17). We were going to wait to get pg until after our wedding, but both of us decided we would rather go off BC earlier so that we could give my body some time to regulate. Well, we got pg this first cycle! Now that we are pg, we are excited that we will have met, married and had a baby all in 2006 (we met the first week of January).

I love your poems - they are so cute! I like both, so I think either would work VERY well.

We're going to visit my parents at the end of the month - we'll tell them then. Though I don't know how yet.

we are sooooooo not looking forward to telling our families bc they all thought we should be done at 3 (very opinionated family) but since it is our decision and not theirs....we are at least going to wait till we pass teh 12-14 week mark...it should be interesting trying to hide it till then...my body is going back to preggo mode much faster since I pretty much just had a baby not even a year ago.

Obviously there's going to be a picture of us (from last week) inside the card. For Bryan's grandmother, we're going to take the jacket I bought for the new baby and tell her we wanted to show her something we bought that we're going to need next year (her eyes are bad and she can't read anymore).

If you're looking for ideas, this is what I did with my ectopic:

I got one of those picture frames that has 2 sides (but if it's your first you could just do a single frame) and put a picture of DD on one side. On the other, I printed out "This side to be filled May 2006." and then put a rubber stamp of 2 little baby footprints under that. Everyone loved it.

I think I am going to wait until 12-14 weeks also. I have really nice il's but they know that I am so stressed out with life right now. I don't think I can handle negativity at this point as I am still trying to convince myself that everything will work out fine. I thought we were done with having kids but apparently a higher power must not think so...:

I haven't really told many of my family members yet. DH hasn't told any of his family members. We have told several friends though. I guess we'll slowly leak out the information one by one. I still just can't get too excited about this pregnancy yet.

Well, we are a reckless lot, and have already told everybody we have any interest in telling. The rest can find out when I'm showing. I really like the ideas you guys have posted in this thread. We're just no good at holding off on good news.

We're letting dd(9) tell most everyone. She's so excited, and this is one of her ways of being included. I only told my Mom (she screamed ). I only see her every 3 months and I was hoping to pick her up from the airport with a surprise round belly but she just visited last week and I couldn't hold out another 3 months.

Actually I was going to wait to tell my parents because I didn't think they would react very well. My DH just recently started working again after having back surgery last year. We also moved 1500 miles away from them in Dec.

I'm going to visit them for a week in May and I couldn't figure out how I was going to hide it from them at 8 weeks pregnant and it was really stressing me out.

Yes, I'm 32 yrs old and afraid of what my parents will say. Finally I just decided to tell them because I was so stressed and they were actually kind of happy!! Woo-hoo!!

I read a post with someone else's idea a long time ago and it stuck with me. I'm going to send flowers to my mom and mil (the info will trickle from there ) with a note included that reads:
Announcement of Promotion

Effective immediately:
After over 1 year of faithful service marked by exceptional performance, we would like you to help us congratulate Ms. Athena on her immediate and deserved promotion to the venerable position of Big Sister.

Ms. Athena has begun her transition to this new role, and expects to assume the full duties and responsibilities of the positon in December of 2006.

We already told everyone. The day I got my bfp (wasn't even 4 weeks yet), my DH had met my MIL to take her to the hospital to see her mother, who had had a heart attack the previous day. I got my bfp, then took a picture with my cell phone, and send it to DH's cell phone. He called and asked if that was a positive. Like I'm going to send him a negative pregnancy test! Anyway, later that day, he showed it to MIL to cheer her up, since she was a nervous wreck (her father had a heart attack several months ago too!). And of course Granny (the one in the hospital) was told. Btw, Granny was up doing laundry the following week. You wouldn't know she'd had a heart attack and had stints and all that. Amazing woman.

Anyway, I called my parents, since the inlaws now knew. And of course I had already called my best friend. And I was jumping up and down while the phone was ringing, and DS started bouncing up and down too. It was really cute. I told him immediately, but he has no clue really. He can say "baby" and point to mommy's tummy when I ask where the baby is, but he really doesn't understand the whole thing quite yet.

I just told several people at church last week. As quickly as I'm showing, it will be obvious before too long! I'm about 8 weeks right now.
