How common is adult circ?

My dh was sharing vasectomy stories w/ a friend at work yesterday. This friend told him that after his vasc. he said to the Dr, "Hey, while you're down there would you do a circ too?" His dr told him no...not sure why, I kinda stopped listening for a moment out of shock (mainly out of the fact that guys talk to each other about that kind of thing ) after that point.

Dh went on to say that this guy isn't cut and hates it. That he's had cleanliness issues, thinks it's too hard to clean himself in public b/c, "he says to clean himself it looks like he's jerking off". And that during sex, his foreskin has folded back on him causing pain.

So my (circ'd) dh was acting like he was thinking some day when Matthew is an adult, he'll will want to be cut b/c it seems like such a hassle. UGH. I told him I was perfectly fine if Matthew made that decision as an adult and just dropped it. Thank GOD this didn't happen while I was pregnant trying to convince him about nocirc!!!!

In all my reading prior to ds' birth, I never remember seeing anything about cleaning looking like masturbation. Don't they just retract, clean and that's it? And I never read about the foreskin during sex issue.

Of course this doesn't change my opinion on circ at all! I'm just wondering how common it is for men to want to be cut in adulthood. I seem to recall reading that most that are intact stay that way and that some circ'd wish they hadn't been cut. I just need some ammo in case my dh ever brings this up again!!

Um... cleaning himself in public? Exactly what does he mean by that? Does he NEVER bathe alone?
If I am in a group shower, I'm not gonna do too much cleaning down there. It's not like it has to be bleached everything you turn on the water! I can bathe myself just as easily at home thank you very much.

he probably means shaking the drip off. Cut guys have to do it too. Won't make a diff if he is cut or not, still looks the same.

Honestly I don't even understand what he really means. And what is he crying about anyway - he can go and get himself circumcised if he wants to - better get his teeth removed at the same time since brushing teeth is much more complicated job than keeping genitals clean.

It always puzzles me to no end when I hear these stories. I've never ever heard anything like this here in Scandinavia. After being over 7 years in circ debate I still haven't found an answer to why so many intact men in USA suffer from all kind of problems.

I was puzzled when dh was telling me about it (and wondering WHY he was telling me) but was too tired to get into a big discussion about it all. My dh is the type that needs facts about stuff like this so I wasn't in any mood to try discussing it w/ him w/o facts. kwim?

Put it this way, there aren't huge numbers of adult men in intact countries queueing up to get circumcised. They value what they have, and don't want anything cut off it, there's a reason why most circumcising cultures get them while they're too young to throw up any objections.

I don't know what this guy's issues are, but your son won't have them, there won't be the indoctrination about constant "cleaning" when he grows up, and he won't be hearing all the time that he has to essentially wire-wool-and-alcohol it to get it clean.

Apart from anything else, that guy has the choice to get himself done, why hasn't he done it yet, if he hates it so much? - He could easily have got himself booked in for a circ, but hasn't, why do you suppose that is?

I have read somewhere that somewhere around 1-2% of intact guys elect to get circ later in life for some reason. I'll bet the percentage of circ. guys restoring is larger than 1-2% already. I am intact and I could not for any reason see me having it done unless there was absolutely no other way to save my life. This guy really has problems, he has been listening to some cut guy brag about how great it is to be cut and how he needs to be cut to. What he needs to understand is someone is telling him lies and trying to get him to give in and have it done so he will be unhappy like him. Cleaning is no different than with circ. you still just wash, rinse and you are done, simple as that. This guy needs to talk to my BIL he made the decision to get cut on the advise of his doctor for a thight forskin about 2 years ago and has been suffering ever since, in his words "if I had only known what I know now there is NO way that I would have it done". You loose so much. I have seen two guys have it done and as soon as the pain and sorness was gone they started restoring to try and get back what they had just had cut away, how sad. Thank you again Mom and Dad for leaving me alone.

Poor guy. My dh's grandfather was intact and when his grandmother found out we are going to leave any children (male or female) that we have intact, she threw a hissy fit. She went on and on about how disgusting it was and how he would clean and clean with soap and water and it would never get clean. She said he was always getting dirt under "that" and it was just so nasty. Dh just ignored her totally and was like "ok, grandma, whatever". After he got off the phone with her, he told me what she said and I about died laughing. I was like "what, was he walking around sticking his d**k in a bucket of dirt all day?"
People don't realize that that "stuff" is normal and needed, it's not dirty. They don't realize that women have smegma too. It's just funny and sad all at the same time. Needless to say, because of his grandmothers opinion (and probably because of the era), dh's father and himself are both cut. No more generations will be though! Dh is the only boy and I'm already working on his sister. I've got many years to get her used to normal penises though, she's only 17 and has no interest in having sex or babies at this time.

Growing up in a place where circ is rare, I've never known a man to choose to be cut later in life, either by choice or for hygeine reasons.

This guy's situation seems a little strange to me - a few things he's said make me scratch my head. As someone else said, he's probably grown up constantly hearing how dirty it is. Another thing might be that he's grown up thinking he has to retract and clean vigorously every time he pees so that it stays clean. I guess I'm saying it might not necessarily be his fault that he has this attitude - it could be a combination of culture/society plus an uninformed upbringing.

I agree that he's probably been made to have an inferiority complex about it his whole life and is just saying what he thinks others want to hear. If he'd really wanted it cut, I can't imagine ANY American doctor that wouldn't oblige...or wouldn't quickly refer him to one that would. But it is nice to think that there may be a doctor out there that knows the minor stuff he is whining about is nothing compared to the trade-offs he'd be making by getting circ'd.

LOOK... I'm intact and I just HAPPEN to retract my foreskin when I pee; some don't, some do. I pull it back, pee and put it back. Just what you said. Um... cleaning? There? No. And cleaning in the bathtub's a breeeeeeeeeze!!! Just pull it back underwater and push it forward and I'm VERY good to go. In fact, I (((love, love, love))) the silky "clean" feeling of my penis-- foreskin and glans, afterwards when I'm dry. As for sex, I've had no problems.

Everyone is different and if you leave them intact, they'll get their choice when they're older and more mateur to think about it. If you cut it off during infancy or childhood (both cases forced), they'll have a much harder time getting the opposite result to make them happy!

Earlobes from ear piercings cause "trouble" for some... not all, but some, but that doesn't mean people think it's logical to cut off the cartilage off at birth. Same thing with foreskin. Let it be and deal with problems in a non-surgical way. Globally, even in non-circumcising coutries, people think the male foreskin is disposable. It feels like hitting your head against a brick wall at times since that seems to be the ONLY body part treated with such disrespect.

Maybe this guy was just trying to make your dh feel better by pretending it was such a hassle to be left intact. Kinda like, "it's such a burden to be ________" (thin, rich, famous, a genious, intact, you name it.)

I casually mentioned it to my dh. Told him how there really isn't anything he needs to be cleaning after using the restroom. Dh said something about tapping after urination and I told him, "Yeah, I know. But cut or not you do the same thing. There isn't any need to clean other than bathing." He just kinda stared at me...that guy stare. I went on to tell him that I just wanted to mention it b/c I didn't want him to think intact was dirty or a hassle. He said it didn't change his opinions on the issue. WHEW!

Still...ITA with all of you, this guys views on his intact-ness seem very odd.
