How common is adult circ? - Page 2

I've been getting quite an education on people's genitals since I became
a global intactivist (rather than a my town intactivist) about 8 mos ago.
Altho I've worked in women's health for 28 years, it's only in this last 8
mos that I've heard that there are women with extra long labia minora
that have their vaginal lips shortened up so that they "look" better. Also
there are women who have vaginal tightening surgery. The nos of women
have got to be teeny---it's extremely unusual to see/hear of this. I think
it's the same for the guys. Very small, obscure numbers.

I also think it's important to remember that there are people who like to
be cut. Look at those women who have spent a fortune to look like Barbie, etc.
I think it's a type of mental illness that drs should be treating with therapy rather than surgery. Anyway, doing something irreversible when you're over 18
is very different than unconsenting babies being mutilated.

In all of my years of intactivism, I've only seen the results of one study about this issue. It was reported by Dr. Jim Bigelow in his book. It was published in Journeyman Magazine in 1991 and found that only 3% of intact men had ever seriously considered circumcision and only 6/10ths of 1% had actually acted on the impulse. Conversely, 20% of the circumcised respondents were unhappy that they were circumcised.

To put that in numbers, only 30 of 1,000 intact men have ever seriously considered being circumcised and only 6 of 1,000 intact men are circumcised for all reasons including medical and cosmetic reasons but 200 of 1,000 circumcised men wish they hadn't been circumcised. Those figures show that the common perception of the numbers of intact men that are circumcised as adults is probably greatly exaggerated as is the perception that all circumcised men are satisfied with their abreviated penises.

As far as maintenance of the intact penis, the only difference from a circumcised penis is retracting and replacing the foreskin. Those two moves take a fraction of a second. It may take up 6 minutes in an entire lifetime. Big Deal!
