New here, should I encourage ds to go back to bfing?

I'm at a loss about this. I am very dedicated to child-led weaning, but when I went into Preterm labor at 28 weeks, I had to wean ds (31 mos) immediately. The weaning went pretty well, and there were only a minimum of tears, but I am very heartbroken that he wasn't able to make that decision for himself.

It's been 4 1/2 weeks, and while he no longer asks to nurse, he still sees my breasts as a comfort. If he gets hurt, or wants cuddle time, he will lay with me on the couch and place his head on my breast, and he still wakes up slowly in the morning by doing the same. He apparently decided that Mommy weaned because "nunnies were 'yuck'", and he will pat my breast and say, "Nunnies 'yuck'."

I'm at 32 weeks now, still on partial bedrest and meds to keep me from going back into labor. If I make it to 37 weeks, I'm kicking around the idea of telling him he can go back to nursing, if he wants. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if I hadn't had to wean, he would still be nursing today. I know that if he wants to nurse after the baby comes, I will let him, but I'm sort of torn about if I should outwardly offer it or not.

What do you think?

Sure I don't see a problem with it. I could see myself offering if my child had weaned before ready. Many children will see the baby nurse and will probably ask to do it. My son weaned well before my dd birth and seemed intrigued by it and asked. He didn't do it but I guess he felt good knowing he could if he wanted.

If I was in that situation, I'd offer.

He may try and decide he is done after all, or he may happily go back to nursing.

As long as either decision of his is okay with you, then I say go for it when the time comes.
