First of all, they aren't plastic, they're silicone.

And based on my own experience w/ plugged ducts, I had one side that would chronically get plugged in the same spot no matter what. I doubt what kind of pad I used would have made a difference.

I used LilyPadz and hated them but I never got clogged ducts or mastitis from them either. I did get chapped nips because of a little pool of milk that would form around my nipple when I wore them no matter how tights I applied them.

Eventually I threw them out because they got moldy. *yuck*

I've read on another forum that some LCs are discouraging use because it can provide the perfect environment for thrush for those who are predisposed to it. And I've read that women with oversupply problems shouldn't use them because it can cause the plugged ducts- but aren't a problem for those with the "minor" leaking.

I've always wondered if those really worked, but I guess they probably aren't for me, considering that after I had my last 2 I just kept a newborn dipe on each breast for the first week or so until my milk regulated, because I was just leaking too much to waste all those pads on..lol...

I also had a great experience with them when I was trying to let a massive gash heal while fighting off topical and ductal yeast 6 weeks post partum.

I've never personally used them but I've heard postive things about them from moms who did.

I think, as with anything, it's all in how you use them. If you keep them on for days at a time, I can see the problem. If you're out in public and don't want leaky breast shirts, they seem rather useful. I would've loved to have them, as I had a newborn in the summer, and either the nursing pads showed through my thin summer shirts, or I leaked through my thin summer shirts! Plus, I hated how they absorbed the milk and got soggy!

Darn! I wish I had thought of that!

I loved Lilypadz, too.

I used them and loved them and will use them again. Since my baby was nursing frequently, there was never an issue of clogged ducts (I did have this issue when pumping with first baby and using disposable pads BTW).

I leaked through all cloth and disposable pads but the LP work. And as a PP mentioned, they're silicone with a tacky side that sticks to the breast. It is the same function as pressing your arms against your breasts during letdown, presses the nipple in.

eta: I have oversupply issues, and the LP actually seemed to help with that. Leaking just let more milk come out so my body could make more whereas the LP stopped the leaking. KWIM? Of course, YMMV.
