two year old. concern over front tooth.

Hi. This is my first post because I am new here. I recently noticed that my little boy has 2 spots on one of his front teeth that is probably the start of decay. He is in the process of giving up the bottle. The only thing i give him at night now is some water with flouride included that comes in little bottles. I bought it from walmart.

He has his first apt. for monday, april 17. When i made the apt the woman said the dentist will clean his teeth and xray for the first apt. and the 2nd will be for any work. She said if it is cavities, the dentist will want to probably fill the cavities in the front. Im concerned that this will be too stressful and fearful for my little boy. Hes attached to me and im afraid how he will handle it. Also, I dont want any silver fillings in the front. Wont that be too noticable?

They wont use silver in the front. Or at least I never worked for ANY dentist that would do that. Just talk up how fun it will be for the cleaning. WHen I was working as a hygienist I would use phrases like... My magic chair that gives you rides up and down , Tickle your teeth clean, The special tooth brush that sounds like a race car, Special tooth counter and mirror on a stick to see how many teeth they have. IF your DC is having a hard time ask if they can sit on your lap and get the cleaning/ check up ( OK I called it the mommy chair. We would also play lets count together ( when I checked for decay. If your child needs fillings ask the dentist how he/she would like you to prepare your child. Sometimes they are not too deep and dont need to be numbed then the fillings feel like another "special" cleaning.

results of dental visit

Thank you for your opinion. The visit went very well. The dentist is a pediatric who only works with children. He actually let her clean his teeth and then the dentist checked them. He has 2 small cavities on one of the front teeth and 1 cavitiy on another top tooth, but not in the front. That one is very tiny, caught early.

He has an appointment on august 8th to get a couple fillings, just like you said in white on the front teeth. She said i can be with him. They may not have to numb him. But if he is not numb how does he not feel the pain?
