Breast-Feeding Display On Campus To Raise Awareness

Breast-feeding in public is what six women did Wednesday in a very public arena at the UT campus.

They say, whether you squirm or not, they have the right to feed their children wherever they are.

<snip>

Does the site of breast-feeding make you uncomfortable?

A public feed on UT campus with moms and babies was both a public art demonstration and a very public statement.

"In our society, breasts are conceived of in a sexual manner in advertising, in magazines and what not," art student Brooke Gassiot said.

Gassiot is an artist, a student and a mother.

I just viewed the clip, and I gotta say - I LOVE THIS!!!!!

I just get choked up and feel like crying (with happiness) when I see moms images of moms breastfeeding on TV - standing up for themselves. It was just like this with the CNN clip that covered the NYC Nurse-In. I LOVE IT!

I'm so happy I'm able to see all the things that I NEVER thought would happen - start to happen. So many people work on change, and may never see the results in their own lifetime - but I'm confident we will. I've already seen a huge change in breastfeeding advocacy, since I was a new mom 8 years ago.

WAY TO GO MAMMAS!

One eensy-weensy problem. Since when has there been any doubt that breastfeeding is good for babies? I thought the debate was about whether anything else is as good or even good enough for babies. If there are people who worry that breastfeeding is bad for babies, do we ever have some work to do.

Silly reporter lady...

Austin Rocks!

I'm so proud to live in Austin.

I am surprised that there were only six women there. I got several emails about it from different groups I'm in. Oh well, I wasn't there myself, so I'm sure everyone else had her own excuses. It was at 6:30, which is when we start the bedtime wind-down routine around here.

I think the piece was awesome - good for those mamas! And BTW, if there was a resturant around here that had a "Breastfeeding Moms Welcome" sign at their window I would eat there everyday. I think it was very cool!

I'm not a restaurant (unless you count Mum's Breasteraunt), but I have one at my front door!
