Aaaaa!!! Poopocket hatred!!!! (lot's of shouting, nothing personal)

After several different tries, and several different methods with several different types of fabrics, I have made a decision. I HATE MAKING POO POCKETS!!

The idea is lovely, a diaper with gussets in the legs.

I have no problem making the gussets, and stretching the elastic.

I HAVE A PROBLEM TRYING TO SEW THE GUSSETS TO THE DIAPER! And then trying to sew all the diaper layers together!!

I CAN'T DESCRIBE WHAT I AM DOING WRONG, NOR DO I KNOW EXACTLY IF IT IS SOMETHING THAT I AM DOING WRONG! I JUST CAN'T DO IT without making the diaper look all disfigured and uneven!!

COULD SOMEONE POINT ME TO A SIMPLE TO MAKE DIAPER FOR BEGINNERS!? Perhaps I am not experienced in sewing as I thought I was!

I am trying desperatly to build up a quick stash to get started with so I could at least see what cloth diapering is all about.

(ok, vent over. sorry, I really needed to blow off a little steam. )

They are tricky, and take some practice - and even then I can never quite get the gussets to start and stop at the exact same place on both sides. I have a lot more luck if the body is made out of flannel and I use something stretchy like velour or hemp jersey for the gussets. Then I can stretch it into place as I sew. Does that make sense?

If you want another one-size pattern - the Better Baby Diaper Pattern is a cinch to sew - you can find it at elizabethlee.com - or is it elizabethleedesigns.com?

I'm not a big fan of one size diapers in general but if you're looking for simple diapers to sew, I would recommend either the Very Baby diapers that can be found at One Stop Diaper Shop or the Darling Diaper patterns. (you can find links in the stickies at the top of the forum page) The Darling Diaper pattern comes in a PDF so you get near instant gratification.

I've used both patterns and like both. I find them both very easy to understand. I like the simplicity of the instructions in the VB pattern and the shape and flexibliity of the DD pattern (you get front and side closing pattern pieces with the DD patter) I find the DD pattern instructions incredibly precise and way too long. Either pattern though, is a GREAT investment.

Thanks! I will check all of those patterns out.

It definetly does not have to be a one size fits all pattern. I did not know that the poo pockets pattern was one size all until it came in the mail, and I realized that it was just one pattern in one size, and no directions for making a smaller size.

I would rather have a fitted diaper (with elastic legs), or a contoured diaper (without elastic in the legs) as long as it is a type of pattern that i could attach some velcro to. My baby is the squirmiest one on earth, and I don't want to have to deal with pins and i have no idea where to find snappis, so prefolds are not really what i am looking for. (Although I think they would be the easiest to sew, to get a quick stash together to start off with.)

I am into wool soakers, and I made a couple of them after a little bit of practice they started to come out beautifully. Now i just need to lanolize them, but they work great. (even with the disfigured poo pocket.)

I am still learning, and eager to be taught.

I'm a beginner. Never used a sewing machine except for straight lines before trying to make a diaper. I tried making serged diapers, which was silly b/c I wasn't good at serging so they came out all wonky. Finally I got the Darling Diaper pattern, which people have raved about. I liked it b/c it came with both front and side closure instructions.

My first DD diaper, my dd could wear. Yes, it comes with a big detailed instructional - but I like that. I also like that it has pictures along the way too. I need details, lol!

So I would recommend this one b/c if I can make a presentable diaper the first time, most anyone can.

Here's some pics of the DD's I've made -

First one - front closure

Second one - side closure

Fourth one (my fav) - side closure

I haven't tried the VB pattern yet (next payday though, definitely), but I do have the Darling Diapers AIO and Pocket Fitted patterns (I've made 2 pocket fitted's so far) and it is *so* easy. The hardest part is sewing the casing around the elastic, but it gets easier with each diaper (#2 was much easier then #1).
