Wisdom teeth our while bfing?

Woudl love some opinoins or advice about this.

My husbadn and I finally got insurance again and went to the dentist about 2 months ago. I never got my wisdom teeth out and they do bother me occasionally, but not too bad. The dentist had us make an appointment with their oral surgeon and we went to it.

He agreed, we did need them out, no surprise there. However, I am nursing our 14 month old and I would be put to sleep for the procedure. I wanted to know that the drugs would be ok for her as well, they they are ok for nursing moms. The dentist just blew off my questions completely telling me that she could have anything I could have just a smaller dose..... which I knwo isn't true. There were several other red flags and we just didn't feel comfortable with him whatsoever.

However, I do still need to get them out at some point. Are the drugs used to put you to sleep and for painkilling afterwards ok for her or should I wait till I'm done nursing. Thanks!

I had some dental work done and they used versed and nubain. I asked dds ped if these were okay and he looked them up and said that they should be okay, since they have a very short half-life. I just waited until I got home to nurse after it was done. That was about 45 minutes. I was in a bunch of pain before hand so, It really wasn't an option to wait until I was done nursing. So, I decided to go with it.

I had the same questions, as I went to the oral surgeon just yesturday, The response I got about having my wise teeth pulled was less than appealing to me. The dentist and oral surgeon suggest it, yet I am not sure why it is necessary. I am nursing my 13 month old, and the oral surgeon was really beating around the bush with answering my question on the safety of the drugs used to put me under, and basicly said the best time to go ahead with the procedure is after breastfeeding and before the next pregnancy. I am just as confused as you with the whole ordeal, does anyone out there have any idea why we need to have our wisdom teeth pulled anyway, it just seems so strange to me to get it done if there are no problems.

I just had all 4 of mine taken out the other week. I was told since 2 of them were impacted, I would need them out before I started chemo..

Ds was weaning, but nursing 1x a day. I was under general anesthia, actually given marcaine, instead of lidocaine, as I"m allergic. I was given Vicodin for pain...

Let me tell you how much it hurt. Oh my... this was my 4th surgery since ds was born (including c/s) and I swear this hurt the most. I'm not a pill popper, but I couldn't wait for another vicodin.

With my previous two breast surgeries I was also under general, and by the time you wake up, most of the anesthia is out of your system. The main problem w/ breastfeeding is the choice of pain medication. Vicodin is a L3. Since ds was only nursing 1x a day, it really wasn't a factor, since I knew I was allowing him to nurse at dinner time, I wouldn't take a Vicodin until afterwards...

IMO, unless their infected wait. Another things that kills is the lovely toddler who likes to roll around in your arms. I swear I've never been "head-butted" so much afterwards.

Thankyou SOO much for your replies.

I have generally felt the same way about why am I getting this done when I'm not having problems, which is why I haven't gotten them done before (I'm only 21 htough). I ahve been having some pain from them though, basically because my jaw is too small for them to fit in it with the rest of my teeth. Nothing unbearable though.

I think I will probably wait with what you both said about it. I had the same issue with the surgeon totally beating around the bush about it... he seemed VERY illinformed and I don't trust my daughter's or my health to him. My husband also needs his done, but neither of us will go back to him if we do get them done.... for example, we were there for the appt together to save time. He explained everything to us using DH as the example. When we said that I possibly needed it as well, he gave the EXACT same speech hed jstu given.... plus they told us no problem bring your daughter along to the appt, etc etc. We were in the exam room waiting for a good 45 minutes.... open buckets of chemicals on the floor so I couldn't put her down at all and she was miserable.

Still happy to get any opinions for the time when I do get it done, though hopefully I will be able to wait till DD is done nursing.

I had all 4 really bad impactions removed after dealing with infections and such. However, I did homeopathy and did not need to go under. They just did the numbing. I had no pain or swelling after and i felt it was also safe to nurse as it goes pretty quick out of your system especially with the homeopathy remedies. I wrote a post a while back of what i used.

Dr was impressed however he also hasnt had many that use homeopathy;

If it's not too much trouble would you mind posting a liink to what you used? I have only one wisdom tooth that needs to come out, and it's growing into the other tooth and causing me terrible pain. However, I am unwillling to go under sedatives because of the way my body reacts to heavy medication. I'm afraid that no oral surgeon that I've talked to as of yet is willing to work on a patient that isn't heavily sedated. Sad, isn't it. I'm willing to try nitrus, but any medication that makes me dizzy enough to faint or very dizzy is out. It's funny, but sedatives make me dizzy, and being dizzy will make me go into a panic attack, and mine are so bad I will pass out and my heart will go crazy and my blood pressure drops a mile, so all that with sedatives equals not a good choice.
