That looks like a great book. Any other good books on VS?

I'm in.

For the discussion anyway.

Dh is a problem for me in my goal of VS. We live pretty simply if you compare us to our peers. However, I see DH as a potential problem when it comes to toys for DS (he's almost a year old, when did that happen?).

We have almost always subscribed to this concept and have, for nearly a year, been taking it much further. We are slowly and consistently, unloading all but the bare essentials and basic sentimentals (pictures and a VERY few family items).

The progression is a wonderful way to de-stress. It is like taking a deep breath each time we get rid of a pile of things. We have learned to think carefully and throroughly before buying.

Our simplicity is based on its own benefits AND is because of our plans to move off the mainland. We would continue our simplicity with only one of these benefits, but having both simply deepens our desire to be simple, light and free!

I do practice voluntary simplicity-HOWEVER- my partner only does it 'in theory'. now thats a challenge. I do 'mean' things like ask for people to NOT buy toys for my kids, if they do anyway, I keep them in the packages and donate them to local charity groups. I also got rid of our spare TV and microwave while my partner was at work. 2 less things to clean, much more space AND a healthier diet. I spend almost no money. My parnter on the other hand? OUT OF CONTROL!!! good times...

I love this thread this is what I am trying to do now but I like all the comments. I will be moving soon somewhere to a military assignment with DH. He is coming home from afghanistan next week! I am living with my parents and most of our stuff is in storage. I have managed to sell our home quickly before I moved in with my parents so I have a lot of money on hand with no mortgage and am spending too much on toys, clothes and DVd's. I need to pick up the book and would like to report on my progress and read others
