Rh Negative and freaked out about it! Advice please!

I am Rh negative and I am now pregnant with my second baby. I never received any RhoGam with the first pregnancy. I don't know why I never received any - I seem to recall that it was only mentioned once by my midwife, and never that I can recall by my OBGYN before I transferred care to my midwife, even though he did amnio and was, or should have been, aware that I was Rh negative. Now I am totally freaked out. Is my baby doomed?!? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Ok, I think I have myself calmed down now. I don't think I am Rh negative after all - I think I am Rh positive. I think it was Rubella that my midwife told me to get after my daughter was born. Which, of course, I never did. And I talked with my sister who has three kids, and she said that she is Rh positive, so I probably am, too. And she had talked with our Mom when she was pregnant and Mom was probably Rh positive too. Unfortunately, Mom died 4 years ago, so I can't ask her myself. But anyway, I think everything is OK.

Damn these HORMONES!!!

My sister has rh+ and I am rh-. My son is rh+ and my daughter is rh-, like me. You should double check. It only matters if the baby has rh+. If you are both rh-, you are fine.

Thanks to you both. Yes, I will have this checked ASAP to relieve any lingering doubts. But at least for now I am not so frantic about it.

The only reason they give you a shot of rhogam, is to reduce the risk of you catching rh disease if the baby's blood mixed with yours, so that your body won't regect the baby's blood, and cause your body to produce antibodies that could hurt the baby. You should be fine. I haven't known anyone who had rh disease. I was worried about it with my first one, but it isn't so scary. I am glad you aren't so worried anymore
