supplex waterproof nylon?

One of the patterns I have mentioned that you could use PUL, windpro fleece, or waterproof nylon for the inside part of a diaper cover. My mom and I were searching everywhere looking for one of those three materials (we had the diaper making bug real bad...she lives five hours away and we were staying there for the weekend...).

Anyway, a woman in a fabric store suggested supplex, which is a nylon fabric. I looked it up and found out that it's water resistent, so we went ahead and made a cover with it and it seems to work well. I'm not very experienced in diaper making materials (still waiting for my PUL!!!), and I was wondering if anyone had used any kind of water proof nylon like supplex. It was so much cheaper than PUL, and very light weight.

What can you tell me about the pros and cons of using waterproof nylon?

from what I've read...

pros:
thinner
easier to get your hands on
possibly easier to sew with

cons:
Not as durable
Can't be dried in the dryer or it'll lose it's waterproofing
not breathable at all (PUL isn't that breathable so it may be a moot point)
Not stretchy like PUL

I've been sorely tempted a few times to use nylon too. After I got my first real PUL though, I have been much less tempted. PUL is really nice.

I am getting some PUL in the mail soon, and it will be interesting to compare the two. I've never made dipes before, or really even sewed much before, so I didn't notice whether or not the nylon was harder to work with. I don't dry my covers anyway, so that's not an issue.

So maybe it's just a matter of personal preference? Now I can't wait to get my hands on my PUL and try it out.

I usually use a woven outer anyway, so I have to use elastic and add some extra length to the tabs.

turtlemama77- you might try ultrex- I don't know how it holds up in the wash, but it's used for coats and it's waterproof. I don't think it's breathable, but it's prrdy easy to sew and if you use your joann's 40% off coupon, its cheaper than you'll ever find PUL

ETA: joann's doesn't carry it, but the store I've bought it at takes joann's coupons. also, I don't know if the holes heal.

Wow...PUL is really nice. I just got mine today, and haven't even sewed a stitch on it yet, but wow. I do see why it would be preferred.
