VB size help.

I just bought the VB AIO pattern and I want to make a fitted from it for my DD. The trouble is I have no idea what size to make her. I want to make it with a hidden soaker and then use a trifold doubler as it will be used at night, so it needs enough room for the doubler to fit in there. I dont want to waste my materials getting the size wrong as money is a bit tight. Could anyone who sews with the VB pattern help me? DD is 16 mo. She weighs about 21 lbs, is 32 in tall. Tall and skinny. If I need to do some measurements to make this easier just tell me what to measure and I will do it.

Thanks for your help!

Oh and if it helps any she wears a size 4 in pampers cruisers. Please dont shoot me for sposie use. She outgrew all her cloth while I was busy making newborns for a preg friend and I didnt have time to make her some till today.

I'd make her a medium long! Trace your medium pattern, fold it in half so that the front meets the back. Cut it on the fold. Add 2 inches into the middle, join up the curve and off you go!

My daughter is 20 lbs and 30-31" and fits a medium long nicely. Theoretically you can add more width to the wings but you're very unlikely to need it. You will probably need the extra length in the diaper though.

Jes's Beth what is the diff between a medium long and the large? Would adding the 2 inches like you said to the medium make it just as long as the large or longer? and is it that you get the length of a large without the width if you do a medium long and not a large? so confused

The large is HUGE in the butt. That made it gape at the legs for my DD and it was just way too bulky. The medium long is perfect.

Thanks for your help guys. I ended up using a pair of old flannel pj bottoms as a trial. I used the large size because I was looking to have a little growing room, but I kept in mind the medium long in case it was just huge on her. I ended up taking a 5/8 seam allowance instead of the 1/4 on the pattern, and it fits great with extra growing room.

Now if anyone can tell me how to fatten her up! I just got back from her ped. and I got scolded because she is in the 10% for weight. How do you force feed a 16 mo old?

You don't. Or at least I never could.

If they're worried about fat content (my first DS was being seen at a feeding clinic he was such a small eater with problems) I added butter and whole milk to lots of stuff (and cream cheese and real cheese, and nut butters and anything else that would help my skinny guy). A good dip is marshmallow creme and cream cheese (I know, the sugar-freak in me just gagged when they told me, but I was desperate) and you can dip 1/2 grapes in it, apple slices, strawberries, pretzel sticks, toast sticks, etc.

When it comes to little one's weight, if they eat fine I say let them alone... it's if they don't that you have to do 'tricks' to make up for it. It can be hard to battle between other's opinions of your little one (Dr's, family) and what you know (they're working on it, or you are, or they just are slim naturally). I hate sometimes how much our society is involved with food b/c the little one I had wasn't and it was very stressful. (He is now almost 4 and does a billion times better eating and is actually 70% for height/weight where he was 12% before). Good luck!

Birthfree....Your in the pac northwest. Me too!

I know what you mean about everyone being obsessed with food. When I look at DH toddler photos he is just as thin as DD. I personally think she is fine. She eats pretty good. She flat out refuses to drink milk though. That bugs the Dr too. And the only reason she is a little thinner than last time we went in was cuz she got over the croup and two ear infections. I guess I just get that failure mom fealing after I get scolded even though my better judgment says she is fine.

Glad your son is a better eater now.

I second/third/fourth/whatever the ML size.

DS was 21lbs and er...33" tall or so (around 1yr-18m), and the ML fit like a dream, and still does and he's now 30lbs and 36" tall at 27m.
Course, he has his momma's lack-o-arse and I can squeeze him into some nb sized diapers for giggles
The few times we've used disposables recently-ish were 4s (he tends to get ear infections and the abx shoot through him, and MOLD in like 24hrs. I work fulltime and weird hours...12+ hour days and I can't keep up with 8 poopy molding diapers a day!)

The large fits him, I bought that before they made the ML size....gosh...a year ago or more now. I agree, butt area is really large. Still holds poop OK far as I can tell (I send them to daycare) but the ML is like UBER trim on him. Fits more like a sposie than any diaper I own!
