I wanted to offer a place for you to just converse about any aspect of writing. Anything, just have at it.....

Thankyou BelovedK!!
I don't know if you saw this or not but I posted a poem in TAO yesterday and I got a horrid response. I never expected it and it caught me totally off guard. I felt so humiliated I immediatly removed it. Now I'm not sure if my artistic integrity and freedom of speech should over-ride my desire to be liked at TAO! I'm in a pickle!!
Never in a million years did I think it would offend anyone to that degree! I only thought I would share with the people my feelings and thoughts on Terri Schivo's death and being that she died last year on Easter Sunday it was appropriate to honor her memory now.
Dh says put it back on...don't let others bully you into submission ...and a large part of me wants to because well...it's my poem...my heart went into it...and I believe in it.
What words of wisdom do you have for me?

What's TAO? Is that on MDC?

I think that anyone who doesn't know enough to give constructive criticism that begins with a complement, doesn't know how to critique writing. If they can't critique properly and politely, they don't have enough experience/education to be responding in the first place.

Ok, so I'm arrogant and I believe that there is a fundamental education that goes along with a true desire to write and those with that desire will search out that education. Ya know, read a mag, attend a class, goto a seminar, something...

That said, I have read some crappy stuff in my time (I was one of those English students that took all the creative writing classes, etc. ), and I have never not found something good to say about a piece of writing. I have never found a "problem" with a piece that couldn't be put tactfully. Heck! I've never found a "problem" that wasn't just my opinion/perception.

I think that it's a shame that anyone would be harsh to someone with enough courage to put their writing out there... I know how hard it is to lay your soul on the line like that, and when you just get rejection and criticism back... it's hard not to take it personally.

But I think your DH is right. You can't let them suppress you or your words. It isn't right for them to take that away from you. Follow your heart.

PS, now that my curiousity is piqued, I would love to read your work, if only to try to see what got someone's panties in a bunch!

TAO..Talk Amongst Ourselves.
And it's usually fun over there, where one can talk about nothing or important stuff that doesn't fit into a category. So (i thought) it would be a safe place to share a poem that came from the heart. Um no.
Anyway...it was an Ode to Terri Shivo(mis-spelled)...It was actually an untitled piece however that's what I titled it there.
I'll most likely repost. I want to wait to hear from BelovedK ...maybe there is somewhere more appropriate for me to post something that is surrounded by
controversy.
I'll let your curiousity simmer for a short while...if I could igure out how to link my blog you could view it there!

pinkmilk ((((hugs)))) I'm so sorry you have been getting flamed...and it's esp painfull when it's around a work that comes from your heart. I agree with Wolfcat on the etiquette of giving feedback. My guess is that it is just a controversial subject that raises peoples ire.

I want to see it, I missed it in TAO. Post it here with the request for no feedback or just Put it in the Works in process sticky (WIP) or if you want, I'll open a poetry thread...hmmm, now that's an idea.

PM me if you need to

Oh, and if you get flamed here I'll delete the offending posts, there is no excuse (tisk tisk)

Oh there you are!!!Posting while I was re-posting the poem back in TAO!
Well...the damage is done...let's sit back and see what happens! I will copy to the poetry forum and I'm fine with anything you decide to do regarding it. It's very good practice for me to recieve some not-so-niceness from peoples...maybe one day I'll grow some balls and stick up for myself! Untill then...I'm coming to you for backup!

Well! It took all but an hour to get that thread locked for review. I feel O.K. about it. Whatever. And the reason my attitude seems flipant is because I did what I intended to do...I faced my fear of others critism head on. I didn't run away and hide like I did yesterday. I grew! Today I grew a mile. And that my friends is worth every negative comment.

Right on

Well...I think there is a huge difference between a writing critique and a general critique based upon content. If you posted it here, I would critique it based upon the style and format and communication; but not on content. If I were to post a poem on a controversial subject in TAO, I'd expect some heavy criticism on the content to be sure.
