Who drives an old car? - Page 3

We have have two older cars. One is a 97 Ford Escort that my in-laws gifted to us when we got married. It has 120K miles and gets around 30 mpg. Her name is Lil' Green. The other is an 89 Pontiac Bonneville that was a hand-me-down from my mom. (I drove it in high school in the mid-90's!) It has 200K miles and gets around 25 mpg. I can't tell you its name since this is a family site. Last year, they cost us about $1000 in maintenance and $600 to insure. Way cheaper than the car payments and sky-high insurance on new vehicles.

93 Honda Civic with 132,000 miles on it. A/C has died long ago.

I have a 1986 ford LTD. low miles, DH grandpa gave it to me after mine was crashed, he never winter drove it, he bought it new and an old person driving it, well that says alot!! LOL We also have a 1997 ford f150 4x4 that my dad sold us dirt cheap. It has a lot of miles but the newest we have ever owned.

'95 Chrysler Cirrus with 231,000 miles. Small oil leak that I can't afford to fix, otherwise in great shape. I'm only the 2nd owner, and most of the miles are highway miles. I've got it all bumper-stickered and cool, and want to keep it as long as possible. At least till I'm done with school.

We have a 1996 Honda Civic sedan, which we bought new back in 1996, and a 1995 Honda Accord station wagon, which my parents gave us in 2004 when they replaced it. Previously, we'd had a 1991 Honda Civic hatchback, which still ran fine, but we decided that the station wagon would be a more practical family car, as well as being more pleasant in the summer here since it has air conditioning. :-)

I'm planning to keep both of these cars until they become too expensive to maintain, at which point I'll replace them with something else I can afford to buy with cash. I don't ever want to have a car payment again.

We have a Subaru Outback wagon (love it!) and VW's. Currently we have a 69' bus daily driver, a 77' bus that is mainly for parts and a 73' bug that we're in the process of fixing up. It certainly helps A LOT not to have car payments. When something needs work or maintenance I don't resent it since I know that all of our vehicles will last forever (hopefully) as long as we take good care of them!

Dh drives an awesome 97 Honda Accord - it only has 81K miles on it, and it's paid for.

My car is newer - '02 Mazda Protege, but it's also paid for. I have 47K miles on it, and I'll be running it into the ground. It should last years and years.

Dh drives a '95 Honda Civic with 252,000! WHen he's working he drives 200+ miles a day.

I drive(well I used to drive, now my dd18 drives ) a 2000 Chevy Venture Minivan. It doesn't ahve great gas mileage, but we carpool, so it's usally better than 1/2 full. It has 150,000.

we have a ford ex-taxi that has done about 700,000+ miles on it. and it still runs like a beauty. the motors of ex-taxis last for a long time because they are almost always warm and running from the get-go. dh is a mechanic part-time so when a part needs replacing (not that often either as the motor is in good shape) it doesn't cost much to repair it - just the cost of the part at wholesale price. so having a very used car doesn't cost us much at all. and apart from that, the gas mileage is pretty good (dh tells me).

old cars rock!

We just got a car about 2 months ago.
It's our 1st car in almost 2 yrs. we had been going car-less before that.

It's a 1997 Mazda 626 5spd. I LOVE it!!
It is good on gas milage (25/29) and the best part is owning it out right! Yeah - no payment! that also means Liability only ins. Geico gave it to us for $148 for the whole 6 month policy!!! (because we ahve 5 yrs of clean driving record... easy when you havn;t driven for 2 of them )

this is fine for now, but next year we will have to get another vehicle - a small truck- for DH to drive to work.

We plan on keeping that for 2 or 3 yrs and then buy a Tpoyota Yaris thru his employee discount. If we can;t get it for cash then we will pay as much as we can and just finance the rest thru our cedit union.

Wow, I've never seen such a list of oldies-but-goodies

I drive a 98 Ford windstar...it has 99,400 miles on it as of today. That is a "new" car for us though we paid $2K for it a couple of years ago, it was a steal (rich family friends, wanted rid of it )

Dh drives a 91 Ford Taurus with 124,000 on it, and no heat (and we live in Michigan ) he can fix just about anything, so I don't see us ever owning anything less than 6 years old.....he's checking out a 94 honda civic tommorow, actually- they only want $1K for it so he is just intrigued
