Drying clothes outside

We can't have a laundry line, but can have one of those umbrella clothes dryers. I've seen them for $15 and with the amount of laundry I do around here it would pay for itself before too long.

Dh's objection...bird poop and space. I was going to put it over by the garden, so there won't be any overhead trees & kids/dogs shouldn't be running by there anyway. But the question of bird poop remains. What percentage of clothes that you hang outside get poop on them? If they get poop on them you just re-wash, yes?

Sometimes the things that dh worries about make me

I've never had bird poop on my clothes, my car yes, not my clothes. If it's not under any trees you should be fine. Don't worry about poop from birds flying overhead. With that logic the kids shouldn't play outside because they'd get pooped on.

I can't remember ever having to rewash something due to bird poop. I used an umbrella line for 2 years for a family of 3-4 (lots of cloth diapers, because #4 was born while we lived there), and before that, we used a clothes line when I was a kid. I'm sure it must have happened a couple of times, but... I don't remember it ever being an issue.

As for space, those umbrella style ones don't take much space anyway, but the way you put them up, you put a sleeve in the ground and put the pole in the sleeve, so you could very easily take the pole down when not in use.

See, dh has gotten pooped on 2 or 3 times in his life , I try telling him it's considered good luck, but he doesn't agree...So that logic won't work on him.

Oh my! Does he carry an umbrella for protection now? My MIL was pooed upon on our way into a restaurant once. dark berry stains...

My mom has has a clothesline for all 32 yrs, ok-33 yrs in a an hour and half- and I called her to see if this has ever happened; nope, not once. Our dog did like to bite the pant legs though, just a warning.

G/L convincing hubby!

In 14 years of married life and hanging clothes outside, I have had a bird poop ONCE on clothing. Just last year, and it was a prefold diaper anyways. I just tossed it back in the laundry, no big deal.

Nope no umbrella here...lightening, you know. Really - he doesn't have many hangups, it just seems like he does!

RE: the dog biting the pants legs, I grew up on a farm and we always hung our clothes to dry. One day our goat, Carla, was bleating like she was scared for her life. I went around the back of the house where the laundry line was and she had a pair of my dad's underwear on her head! She was running around blindly, bleating pitifully, it was too funny! She managed to get her head through one of the leg holes and spent the rest of the day running away from anyone who tried to come up to her to get the underwear off. It's one of those "days of infamy" in my family!
