Picky Eaters

Just wondering when other picky eaters started outgrowing it. I was just thinking ds (4.5) would start coming around again when he went to new heights of pickiness. Now, he'll eat just pizza crust intead of plain pizza (before that he would eat mushroom and olive pizza). Last time I gave him chicken nuggets, he said "no ketchup". I'm not looking for advice on how to get him to eat, just wondering if there is a magic age that I can hope for. As a young toddler, his food preferences were more texture and spice issues, so I don't think he has an actual sensitive palate. He just wants to decide for himself what he is going to eat. Fortunately for his diet, he still gets a fair amount of breastmilk.

I have the same issue here. My son will try new things but almost always says "yuck", even if it's something I'm sure he'll like. Sorry I don't have an answers- we're still struggling with this.

I have a 12 year old that is still that way. Sorry!

We outgrow it?? I say "we" because *I* am in the picky eater category, and I am 33 years old!

There is no hope for my son, I am sure...

Sorry, I don't know the age of non-pickiness but I certainly know about living with a picky eater. I swear we should own stock in chicken nuggets and bagels. We're lucky that he likes a lot of fruits and a couple of vegis...

Add me to the list. Dd will be 4 next month and while most of what she eats is healthy, there's very little variety and it's all bland with no sauces, etc. Except chocolate chips, put those on something & she'll eat it .

I try not to stress about it, but it's hard not to, especially when some of her friends & her cousins are such hearty eaters.

Oh well. Maybe I'll reserve my high hopes for 7, the "age of reason". I also think their will be an impovement when ds no longer needs naps. He is horribly cranky whenever he is the least bit tired.

My 10 year old DS "outgrew" his issues around age 7. First grade. I don't know if it was the magic age so much, but more that he started eating lunch at school at that time...peer influence.

My ds does eat better with "peer influence" which is part of why I know he isn't really a picky eater, just wants to be in charge of himself. It makes it more frustrating because I make foods that I KNOW he likes but he looks at it and says "EW". At least, he has stopped making me guess what he wants to eat and then getting mad if I guess wrong. "Bring me something to eat... a surprise...NO NOT THAT....NO I WON'T TELL YOU...YOU HAVE TO GUESS!"
