Hello!
On April 16th, Easter Sunday, at 1:27 AM my little Lucian was born! He weighed in at 7 lbs, 13 ounces. I still don't know his length though.
Labor started for me on Friday night with contractions 15-20 minutes apart. I eventually got bored and jealous of my husband sleeping so I slept until the next day, and had contractions pick up fairly steadily to about the 4-6 minute range by 2 PM. I did a lot of walking and packing (yes I'm a last minute packer) to try and get the contractions steady to about 5 minutes apart before heading to the hospital. We headed out... oops and we headed back home cause I forgot my bathrobe. It was a bumpy ride to the hospital but I made it through the contractions. Little did I know my husband forgot entirely to pack his clothes, etc. etc..
We parked, got lost and couldn't find the right elevator to the UC San Francisco maternity area. Finally we found the spot and checked in. Woo! I was 6 cm dilated.
I was afraid I wouldn't have any dilation. I got moved to the labor and delivery room pretty quickly. Nurses encouraged me to take a whirlpool bath, since I always wanted to birth in there. But it didn't work out so well, because pretty soon after getting in there I vomited a LOT! Nix on the tub and bathroom because it smelled pretty rank after that.
I spent the rest of the time walking around the room and lounging on the bed. Husband and I watched the movie, Princess Bride, most of the time. For some reason just walking or leaning on my husband felt really good. And woo! I was at 8 cm.
I hit 9 cm finally and contractions started to get really hard. The pressure seemed unbearable and it was really hard to resist the desire to push. I started having a hard time of it and knelt on the floor a lot and had minor blackouts. I asked them to break my bag of waters after a long time of waiting for things to get better. Once the water was broken I felt tons better. I slowly made it to 10 cm's and started pushing. I got a second wind and was really excited to see the baby.
And boom after 1 1/2 hours of pushing the baby arrived healthy, with a full head of black, curly hair.
All in all, the experience was great. The hospital staff was VERY supportive of me, cheering me on for having a natural birth and being great coaches. I really want to buy each one of them a present to say thanks.
