using a Bumbo seat?

Are any of you all using the baby bumbo seat?

I've been considering getting one for Drew. The boy LOVES sitting up, facing out, and looking around! I found one in his day care room today and sat him in it before I left. He seemed to really like it. I thought it might be fun to sit Drew in one when I'm playing in the floor w/ Evan. Just wanted some review I trust...

I bought Tori one and she LOVES it. She used to hate lying on the floor, but now that she's learned how to roll both ways and is even scooching herself across the floor she likes it a little more.

I use it when she wants to be with us at the family table and I want to eat. AND we used it at the community yard sale....

We've got one.

Only issue I've seen is that they can hold their neck and head up but the back isn't as strong so sometimes they slouch forward or to the side.

I think it looks cute.

Too bad they sell this: http://www.bumboseat.com/mybottlebuddy.html too

(I mean really, "The Podee Hands Free Baby Bottle is a hands free feeding system helps both babies and parents. Mom and Dad are free to hold the baby not the bottle for a great bonding experience. Babies get less air in their tummies because the Podee's straw pulls liquid from the bottom on the bottle and they get that terrific feeling of independence that comes from feeding themselves"

Ewww... to the bottle, not the seat.

The Bumbo seat thing just doesn't feel right to get for my baby. I'm not sure why I feel that way. Maybe because it doesn't seem good for the spine and posture?

ETA: the bottle thingie would have been great for my now 14 yr old disabled DS when he was little.

We have a bumbo and Tharen loves it. He was sooo unhappy at dinnertime before that dh and I never got to eat together. One of us had to pace with him while the other ate, and then vice versa. It was also hard to play with Kearnan because Tharen wanted me to be holding and carrying him all of the time. Now he loves to sit in his bumbo at the table and watch us eat, or watch us play board games with Kearnan. I think he feels like he is part of the action, where before he couldn't really see us from the floor or the bouncy seat. He really doesn't spend much time in the bumbo, just meal times, and occasionaly while I do laundry or play a quick round of Pokemon yahtzee with Kearnan. I think like anything it is good in moderation. Plus it will be great when he starts eating solids.

HI I just saw your post in the new posts. I just wanted to echo the previous poster. I would love to get one for my daughter who is 6 months but once I seen the other products they carry I just couldn't give them my money. They have an excellent product and on all the other boards I visit I haven't heard one bad thing about them. I would encouarge everyone to write them and let them know that you won't be buying there product till they stop carrying that product.

I have one for dd and she can get out of it, so it isn't really safe for us. She straightend her body so hard she can slip her legs and body up out of the chair and could do this since 3 months.

I am worried she will hurt herself in it.

Are we the only one?

HOLY COW! I didn't even NOTICE that when I went to the site! What an icky bottle. Giving lazy parents yet one more way NOT to interact with their kids. And it's also stupid! What baby wouldn't totally be messing with the tube and yanking it all over the place anyway? Pulling the nipple out of his mouth, then getting all mad about it... dumb dumb dumb.

Yeah, I think I like the Bumbo seat, but I won't be buying one new and giving them my $$$. Other brands are available, if I can't find one used.

Luka can sit up now, so I don't see a need. For babies who aren't yet sitting up, it seems silly to buy something that they won't need in a month or two.

luka can sit up unassisted???

we just got one as a gift and Weston does love it. Its so funny, yesterday we set it on the table on the lazy susan spinny thing while the kids were eating breakfast and the other kids loves it, they kept turning him to look at them, we all had a huge laugh and Weston was pleased to be the center of attention.

On the floor he can sit unassisted for about 1-2 minutes. In the high chair, he can sit forever because he can't fall backwards. We have one of the high chairs that hooks on to the table.

I just bought one at Target. She loves it cause she can see what I am doing. I put her on the island in the kitchen (I was standing right there cutting up food) and she loves to see what I am doing. I can get dressed and fix my face that way too. LOL I used to prop her on the couch but she would fling herself forward. And I am too scared to lay her on the ground cause Jevin opens the door and lets the dogs in sometimes even though he isnt supposed to. So if I have to put her down, she still has to be up.

It's this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=baby&n=547946

I like it because we are short on chairs, plus it's machine washable which means no scrubbing dried food off of it!

This is funny. There was just a HUGE debate about this chair a few months back. I think it was pulled. If you do a search for "bumpo" it may come up (the poster spelled it wrong in the title)...

The gist was that this chair does not embody simple living. And artificial holding devices create distance between family members.

I considered getting one to use as a high chair, but I'm glad I didn't. I don't want to go down the road of buying lotsa stuff and the window that I would've used it in was SO small- babe starting sitting on his own only about two weeks after he was sitting assisted. And a real lap or a booster seat or what have you is really so much more practical and long-lived. We always managed just fine eating while babe was in our laps.

I remember thinking it would be nice to have a place to "put" him when I went to the bathroom, etc., because he was rolling over by then.... But I'm glad we haven't gone down that road of trying to contain him. We have always made do, and don't even need to use baby gates now that babe is walking because he is accustomed to what IS in our house (we have a small set of stairs that we always watched him with, and now he navigates them fine and safely on his own).

nak

im taking ours back....she got out of it this morning when i was getting jevin breakfast.

the first time around i didnt need anything....but when u have another kid to take care of, its a whole different ballgame imo. you do what you gotta do in order to take care of BOTH kids. i cant just lay her on the floor like i could w/ jev cause she will likely be squashed by a 3 y/o playing "fly." And I cant just neglect my 3 y/o completely because he has a sister now.
