I made a one-size pocket diaper and it WORKS!

I'm so excited! I've been making diapers for my nephew, who is 6 weeks old and growing super-fast. Just when I think I've got a good pattern sketched out for him, he has another growth spurt. So, I ordered a snap press last week and decided I might as well try making a one-size pocket diaper. Now, I don't own any OS diapers, so I kind of just studied pics of them on the internet to get an idea of how they work.

I sketched out a pattern last night, and after fretting about cutting out the pul and possibly wasting it on a crappy pattern, I just cut and sewed. I can't believe how great it turned out! I tried it on my ~28-29 lbs DS and he has a little room to grow in the waist (he's a chunky guy). So I think it would comfortably fit to about 30-32 lbs, maybe longer for a slim kid (my sister produces very petite kids anyways). Judging by the size of my nephew, it would fit from about 10 lbs. The rise might be a little high on a 10 lb baby, but as long as their cord has fallen off, I don't see that being a problem.

On the lowest snap setting, it has a stretched rise of 16 inches, middle is 17 inches and unsnapped it is 19 inches. The waist stretches from 13 inches (crossover tabs), to 22 inches.

I wish I had pics, but alas, my child has gone and hidden the camera again. (sigh)

That sounds so cool! I've been trying to figure out how to make one. If you have any pointers can you please post them?

I pretty much just sketched out a pattern for a large diaper. Rise-19", Back wing-15" or so, Front wing-10", crotch 6 1/2". Here is a link to my blog: http://apnpadventures.blogspot.com The pics are almost all the way at the bottom. You can't really tell where the snaps are on it in the pic (they are kind of hiding in the folds, facing my DS's legs) but I put two snaps right below the aplix. Then I put the socket part of the snaps about 1 1/4" and 2 1/2" from the studs. I ended up having to add another set of snaps because I didn't pull the elastic tight enough, which was a pain in the butt.

All I really had to work with was pictures of a bumgenius and a wonderoo. I like how it turned out though.

I hope all that makes sense.

WTG! The thought of figuring out the snap configurations to install the snaps makes my head hurt, lol.
