I've got some recipes that I wld love to make for potlucks and gatherings, but they contain egg whites, and we have frens who will eat nothing with eggs in it. What's the solution??? Pls help, thanks!!

It really depends on the type of recipe you need a sub for.

Don't even try to make vegan angel food cake. It won't work.

But there's a product that most vegans use called Ener-G Egg Replacer. it's a powder you mix with water and it will bind like an egg, but does not have the same flavor. You can beat it into stiff peaks, but it takes some effort.

*sigh*

oh yes, it's mainly cake recipes.... and some pastry that calls for just egg yolks. Oh, what a bumper!!

Angel food cake doesn't work with egg replacer, but you can use it for recipies that call for one or two eggs and it'll usually work. It's pretty easy to use, so don't give up on the cake and pastry recipies!!

Banana?

Hi there,
Egg whites, huh? Well, I baked my non-vegan sis a vegan cake this weekend and got plenty of compliments! I used 1/2 of a banana for every egg that was called for. The cake was very moist but not as light as a regular cake.
Maybe if you have a recipe that calls for whole egg, you could use this suggestion....Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies!

AHappyMe, I've used the same banana sub for a few recipes before and they did work fine!
CK'sMama, I've not heard of applesauce for eggs; only applesauce for oil! I wonder how it works...

Anyway, I guess I will keep looking for ONLY egg whites or ONLY egg yolks subs..... can't let those delicious recipes go to waste! When I find smth, I'll let you know!!
