toilet seats

(My computer is being bad, I may have double posted! Sorry!!)

Oh, mamas!! I need your help because I have an unusual problem.

My darn toilet seat keeps basically wearing away! Let me clarify: Since moving into our house three years ago, we have gone through two toilet seats and now we need another! What happened with the first is that the actual seat part started wearing away and looking awful. Not white anymore, it looked like it had been sanded down and was black underneath. I joke that we have sandpaper butts! I thought this happened because our house was not built well, and they used the cheapest possible materials.

So, I went to Target and bought a $20 replacement. It seemed like a nice enough toilet seat, BUT now it is also wearing away! It looks as though water got under the paint and it is all bubbling up.

I have NEVER had this happen, I have NEVER had to replace a toilet seat before, much less gone through two in three years! Maybe we really DO have sandpaper butts

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice on a super-tough toilet seat? I don't want to keep buying them! Ugh!

BTW, I live in super humid Texas, but didn't have this problem in my previous Texas residence, although that may have been because we never had the windows open due to the design (no air flow). Do you think it is because of humidity?

Thanks for any advice! If there is any place I'll be able to get advice on this, it's from you mamas!

Sorry, but this post has me

I guess I'd just buy a higher end seat, maybe an all-resin one. Or shave the sand off your butts. I've never heard of a toilet seat eroding away like that!

Apparrently, our butts only got rough when we moved into this house!! I guess it goes hand in hand with me causing trouble in the neighborhood and getting poo thrown at me (more or less direct quote from a "neighbor" who doesn't like us)

Yup, this time I may have to get the $50 toilet seat. For that much, it better massage my heinie when I sit down!

HeeHeeHee...
What a funny post...

My Mother has the same problem w/ her toilet...Can't believe I'm actually talking about my Mother's Toilet...LOL even harder!

We live in Humid OK...She leaves her bathroom window open A LOT...I'm sure that would have something to do with it

And the fact that they have 6 butts constantly "Sittin' on the POT"

I dunno, but you have my sympathies. When we bought our trailer (new) it had cheap plastic seats, which we replaced. One of then cracked a few weeks ago. A bit hard on my 215 pound preggo ego.

It had probs with the paint bubbling a bit, but on the bottom of the seat. I attributed it to my obsessively keeping the lid closed, trapping all the moisture in there. I'm guessing the moisture under the pain could have contributed to it cracking. Or DH leaning on it wrong while painting the wall behind the toilet.

We replaced it with another $20 seat from HD. I wanted an oak one, but the one they had seemed very poorly made and uncomfy. I didn't even see any all resin ones in the display.

Maybe it's just yet another case of "they don't make 'em like the they used to."

We have the same problem...I have bought cheap seats, foam seats, wooden seats, resin seats....you name it. And I'm still replacing it every year. (And wouldn't you know, the Spongebob one that DH let the kids pick out is lasting longer...)

Well, Spongebob lives in a pineapple UNDER the sea, so it makes sense that it would stand up well to high humidity.

DH let kids pick out a fish puffy seat, and it's holding up great--2 years.

Oy. With ONE bathroom, I REALLY don't want to go down the Spongebob/puffy fish seat route. But maybe it's the only way. Sigh. Things just aren't made the way they used to be.

Yep, Spongebob rules are ONE bathroom.

We'll see. DS is learning to go potty (2 yo) and he found out he can *bend* the seat while he's on it. So it may not last very long, actively being bent. We have 3 toilets. So it also doesn't get the wear and tear (i.e. pregnant mom) that the other ones get ...

I just happened to read your poo thread and now I just happened onto this one. See, this is what you get for moving to Texas! (No offense please, anyone who lives in TX, I like it and my parents live there too. Not sure if they have sandpaper butt or not though but they do like the humidity.)

Well, you won't offend me, since I don't like Houston (I imagine that the rest of TX (at least parts of it) HAVE to be better than Houston, but the faster I can get outta here, the better!)!

Our other residence while living here was a condo set up such that you couldn't have the windows open b.c there was no air flow, so that kept the humidity down. I guess it must be a combo of the humidity and cheap parts!

I have been told that Sprawlmart has a large selection of seats, ranging from $15-$60, so I guess I'll check there!

Any other suggestions of where to go so I don't have to enter the Evil Empire? I have tried Target, as I said, they only had seats in the $20 or less range and Home Depot and Lowe's didn't have a good selection either (go figure!)

we've always had pretty good luck with wooden toilet seats. have you tried one of those?

although, i have to admit, a spongebob seat sounds pretty fun

Maybe people are slamming the lid down too hard, that's what happens to mine. I don't mind changing it every couple of years, it gets gross with 6 people using it and only one who cares how clean it is.
