Shoes (sort of a spin-off) - Page 2

They each have a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals. I buy their sneakers at Stride Rite, so they're expensive! I, personally, could not justify spending more $$$ on shoes b/c of this. nak. I have two boys, btw.

ETA: Sorry, they both have a pair of Wellies for playing in mud/rain.

I certainly understand how little ones can easily make it on one pair of shoes. And I can understand that if there is truly no money than you just make do. Maybe they are not comfortable, but its better than no shoes at all. And NO ONE needs as many shoes as we have, G-d knows!

But with older kids (over the age of let's say 3), where there is ennough money to buy basic comfort, how can a child be comfortable with one pair of shoes?

Maybe it depends on the weather where you live. But I can't imagine a child being comfortable in the temperature ranges we have here in a typical 6 month period (highs in the upper 80's and lows in the 20's) with one pair of shoes). And we have good soaking rains or snow in every period. Do your children's shoes not get wet? How do you deal with that?

DS1 has converse high tops w/dragons, Robeez w/frogs, Frog rain boots, snow boots, moon sandals from last year that still fit, and water shoes from last year.

DS2 has one pair of bee Robeez.

DD is 7. She has just grown out of her rain boots and I decided not to buy any until later this year. She just got two new pairs of shoes (just had a growth spurt. So she now has:

-one pair sandals, nice enough (now anyway, cuz they are new) to wear with dresses
-one pair of Mary Janes (new, she loves these things!)
-snow boots that will probably not fit by wintertime
-flip flops
-sneakers which she'll probably outgrow in a month or so (her feet grow fast!)

DS #1 has

1 pair of Munchkin tennis shoes
1 pair of Cherokee oxfords
1 pair of Dr. Scholl's sandals

DS #2 has

1 pair of ShooShoos
1 pair of Bobux Sandals
1 pair of Stride Rite tennis shoes

DD (4 1/2) has

one pair of sneakers
one pair of rainboots
one pair of "dress" shoes (church, parties, et cetera)

DS ( 2 1/2) has

one pair of sneakers
one pair of rainboots

And of course they had snow boots for the winter, and I'll buy them each one pair of sandals when the summer comes.

If it's wet they wear rain boots. If it's dry, they wear their shoes (good ones). If shoes get wet or need washing, I dry them overnight on the heater. It works for my 5yo and 3 yo. The toddler just has one pair of Robeez.

For us its not a matter of affording more. No matter how much money I have, I just can't justify in my mind having multiple pairs of shoes for a child who will outgrow them in a matter of a few months. It just seems wrong to me.

If by 'comfort' you mean physical comfort, the shoes they get will depend on the season - I buy the type of shoe suitable for the coming season. If you mean convenience, maybe the child's comfort level with this will depend on what they are used to. Mine just don't think about it - it's the way it's always been. I may give in to one additional pair as they get older, if they ask, but right now tjey are perfectly happy with their shoes.

I'm with this. My son does have several pairs of shoes, but they're all weather-dependent- one pair of "normal" shoes (fake leather brown sneakers that look decent with anything), one pair sandals, one pair snowboots, one pair rainboots. (Actually, he's currently using snowboots as rainboots, but I'm starting to feel sorry for him since the weather's warming up!)

My 17-month-old daughter, however, has TONS of shoes- probably 10 pairs. We bought two pairs of soft-soled Isabooties, plus a pair of sneaker-type shoes that keep her feet dry when it's damp. But then she got a bunch of hand-me-downs, and Nana bought her several pairs just because my daughter really LIKES shoes, and they function more as toys/ dress-up clothes than real "shoes." I'm looking forward to her outgrowing this batch so we can pass them on!

Well that is what I am talking about when I say needing several pairs of shoes for comfort. Where I live there is no one "type of shoes suitable for the upcoming season!"\

I the past few weeks the temperature in has ranged between 35 and 79. My dd's would have been miserable (cold and wet) in their regular gymshoes in the 30 degree weather (with tons of puddles on the walks) and miserable in their merrel's (perfect for the cold day) on the 79 degree days (hot to the point of sweating.) THAT is what I mean by 'comfort'
