wipeing poopy bums - Page 2

My 5yo will call me if he has a particularly difficult poop to wipe (sorry if TMO).

I'm particularly sensitive to not pushing him about the poop issue b/c my friend's 5yo had an acute OCD episode that caused him to hear voices, triggered by a poop incident at school.

So I'll help him as long as he needs help but sometimes I'll encourage him to give it one more wipe and then he can see if he still needs me.

I don't think 5 is that old to be asking for help. How much pooping is he going to do in a day of school? Is it all day?

Talk to the teacher - I'd be shocked if she weren't understanding about it. Practice all summer with him wiping first and you checking, if he's willing?

Well something changed in his little mind!! I was feeding the baby and he had to poop, I told him he would have to get dad to do it, DH hates wiping bums, so he nicely told DS he would have to do, he did it, no crying or getting mad about it, dad checked his bum and said he did good. Lastnight he had to poop, he came out of the bathroom and i asked him if he need his bum wiped, he said no I already did it, he showed me his bum and there was a bit there but all in all he did good. I took him in the bathroom, pretended I pooped and showed him how to wipe. So we will see how it goes from now on. Ya Taylor.

My oldest was closer to 6 when he started wiping on his own completely. We didn't have those flushable wipes back then.

I think by kindergarten age they should be able to do it since they have to go to school all day alone. If not, then it will come off in the shower or bath later on that night.

lovemy, that's awesome. Isn't it funny how things sometimes just suddenly change? He could always backtrack a bit, but it sounds like you're on the right track

My dd is 3.5 yrs and I still wipe her everytime that she poops. She knows how to properly clean herself after she pees so I imagine that with time, she will learn the other way too.

My ds is 6 and has just mastered wiping himself. I still check him after he is done because I don't want him irritated down there from sloppy bathroom habits and I feel that if I don't correct him now, he will never learn the proper way.

My ds is 6.5 and has been wiping himself for about 3 years. He does a good job. My dd is 3.5 and I still have to wipe her, but she is learning.
