What to do about dry socket?

I had my wisdom teeth out last week (and my Dr. actually told dh it would have been better if we had had them removed when I was younger....ummm, wouldn't that have been my PARENT'S responsibility? anyways...) and they are hurtin'!! Mainly my mouth hurts when I eat (and when I irrigate....oh, ow!).

My Dr. thinks I have dry socket. Anyone with experience? Should I still have significant pain 5 days after surgery? If it is dry socket, what can I do (aside from going to the dr. and going on whatever medicine he wants me to take)?

TIA!!

Hi,

You can do one of two things:

1. wait it out until they start healing which could take up to a month

2. or go to the denist. All they will do is pack it with gauze with some
sort of medicine on it. The pain will stop with-in one hour of having it
packed. You will have to have it packed every couple of days. You
might get lucky and only have to have them packed once. And
that's all they do.

I had two teeth pulled 2 1/2 weeks ago and they both got dry socket.
I went throught a bottle of Ibuprofen in 2 days. I went and had them
packed on a Wednesday and by Thursday night the packing had fell
out. They felt so much better that I didn't have to have them
re-packed. And they haven't hurt since. The denist said they were
healing great and just to keep them rinsed and free of food.

Goodluck! I know mouth(tooth) pain is horrible. You might want to
get them packed just to see if it helps with the pain and start the
healing. I'm just glad to have the 2 absessed teeth out that
caused me pain for 2 weeks.

Thanks! I am going today, and I hope they can just give me the medicine and let me pack it myself! My insurance doesn't cover this, and it is SOOO expensive!

I don't wanna wait a month, though!!
